+1. All of the DA* lenses need a refresh over the next few years but I suspect it will be 2017 - 2018 before they get to them.

Before advanced CAD design tools it took about ten years to earn back the cost of designing a lens (software may have shortened that) so some of the DA primes might take longer before a refresh - of the Limiteds and * lenses, I think only the SMC 40 is over ten, and the 21 and 70 are around ten - the *16-50 and *50-135 were introduced in 2007.

You know, I've simply decided I need to concentrate on learning my gear and photography. I have a K5II, K5IIs, 2 K-01s, and a 200, none with nearly enough images on them, and I've seen stunning images others have produced from these cameras, especially with good glass. I get too caught up in reading about the latest bodies and how great they are, at the expense of spending time on photography. I'm not questioning at all the qualities of the new bodies, but that's part of the equation, and learning the craft a big part of the other, which I need to buckle down on.

It will be interesting to see how well the K-1 will sell. All the attention is promising.

For me, though... I definitely don't need it. The reason I got back to "proper" cameras was wildlife shooting. And a K-3+DA55-300 is already at the limit of what I'm willing to carry. In that sense APS-C is the right set of compromises for me, while 135 format is most decidedly not. If I could get a smaller system with an OVF I would probably have gone there.

You have 100% control of DoF with either format. Technically smaller sensors have a narrower DoF when controlling for all other variables.

DOF is variable with sensor size, if it's that important to you, shoot MF. 645 is shallower than 35mm and still quite portable.

You can still get plenty of control over DOF with an APS-C camera unless.

Unless you shoot everything wide open, DOF probably isn't the a driving reason to move to 35mm. Although it might be a reason to consider amongst many variables.

Agree. Those f/2.8 monsters are really nice but I would much prefer an equally nice set of f/4 zooms. Unfortunately it seems we have a choice of 'professional' f/2.8 glass or 'consumer' slower glass. I want 'professional' f/4 glass.

I'm current looking at the FA 20-35 f/4 and the F 24-50 f/4 but I need a really high quality 70-200 f/4. Maybe the DA*60-250 will work acceptably, we will see.

Pentax will not be able to run two lines of professional glas, plus FF and APS-C lines. My 70-200 was not delivered yet, I used to work with an early Nikon 2.8/80-200 hoping that the Pentx as not too much bigger and heavier.

Probably not, at least in the foreseeable future. The good news is that their 'good' consumer glass like the DA 16-85 is quite good, though slow. And I much prefer a constant aperture but that seems to have gone away as well.
Still one can hope. I would like a new 20-35 f/4 matched with a really good 28-105 f/4 and an 80-220ish f/4.
