Do you ever have this problem?

I have the opportunity to buy a K-x (less than 2K SA'a), the 18-55mm and 55-300mm kit lenses.... plus a new camera bag.... for $200. The problem is, I ALREADY have two K-x's, three 18-55mm lenses and a DA L 55-300mm lens.

I think I might be able to make a few bucks on the deal, but..... I guess I'm just getting more of these older, less desirable cameras and lenses than is reasonable. Decisions, decisions.

It's not exactly rational. It's fear of missing out on a bargain which someone else will get. I suffer from FOMO myself. If my wife ever finds out how many cameras I've actually got I'll be in serious trouble. (But they were cheap! They were superseded models! They were practically being given away!) I've given my Kx to my teen nephew who is a keen photographer. Just think of the budding snapper who might miss out because you get yet another. See? Cured!

That's a great deal... however, $200 is $200, and it goes a long way towards a nice bit of glass - perhaps another Limited to go with your DA35 f/2.8 Macro?

Yep, true. But then..... what if I buy it and then resell it for..... oh, let's say $250.00, then I'd have $50 more than I originally had to add toward that new limited. See my dilemma? And, I could compare the new 55-300mm to the one I already have and see which is sharper. I hate it when this happens!

It's late at night, I can't sleep.... and here I'm shooting the breeze about THIS kind of stuff!

This whole mess started when I was in the 6th grade. My parents owned a little Mom & Pop grocery store and I'd buy those little red-hot, cinnamon suckers from my parents for wholesale (2 cents) and I'd take them to school and sell them for a nickel apiece!

Buy it, sell the DA55-300 for 200$ (easy) and figure out what to do with the K-x and 18-55 later. Maybe just give it to someone in your family or someone you own a favour. Or put it out for sale.

I have the same problem. Buying to much good bargains and struggle to sell off what I don't use any more.

BTW, while you already have three K-x bodies with 18-55, try to mount them firmly as close together as possible, in portrait orientation with a slight overlap of the field of view, use identical settings, and shoot synchronized with a remote control. Then stitch the images. You will get practically the same result as shooting with a 48*x24 mm sensor with 36* Mp. Just try to avoid close objects at the overlapping zones because of stitching errors. If you use 18mm focal length, you will get wider images then possible with any 645 lens on a 645 dslr. You can even take images with moving subjects such as cars, animals, waves etc and get a good stitch and "medium format". Its fun to experiment a little while you can.

*minus some for the overlap

I guess you could always become a Marketplace reseller. I don't know what warehouses or pawnshop chains some of those guys are raiding to get their stuff, but if it fills a gap I'm always happy to buy it.

If you can definitely turn a profit and it's worth your time, go for it!

My question to you would be, "...but would you really sell it?" I have friends who buy and sell gear all the time and make a nice side income off of it. Me? I find great deals and buy them with the intention of turning them, but end up with a spare bedroom full of cameras.

Don't be so sure what these lenses are bringing now. Several have been on Marketplace below $200, for some time; without selling. I don't quite understand it, as I have a 55-300 and love it, but they are not selling at $200 (easy)!

No, they surely are not! Even if I could resell the 55-300mm at $125, (which I think would be a good price) I'd end up with the K-x and the 18-55mm for a mere $75. I like the little K-x, but I already have two of them and have absolutely NO use for another one. It's funny how a guy's mind works..... not wanting to see a good deal go and someone else get it! It's not that I'm greedy, just..... well..... um..... er.... well, maybe it IS greed, ya suppose?

I wish my granddaughter was interested in photography, but alas, she has not a whit of interest in such things. If she was, I'd give her my K-x Storm Trooper.

By the way, I love my 55-300mm lens too! A real bargain. I shot all my bird photos last summer with it. I was lucky in that all of them were within 12-15 feet from me. I shot out the sliding patio door and my bird condo/feeder was on a pole very close by. The only other lens I used was a F 70-210mm. That too is a remarkable lens. Sharp? Oh my, yes!
