SO far 78% are buying a K-1. DId I phrase this question in such a way that it eliminated everyone who's not planning to buy a K-1?

Maybe my title should have been, Your chance to vote for not buying a K-1.

I think it's a little confusing.

For me, the next "upgrade", is essentially the availability of the K1 - not when my K3 wears out.
I am buying a K1, as I contunue to use my K3 cameras at the same time.

I will continue to own APS-C Pentax dSLR cameras, so I have no plans to retire that format.

100% concurrent - especially if Pentax/Ricoh makes the logical choice of putting video in the APS-C body.

I have a DA300 , I use it with the TC. I like the image quality of the DA300 without TC. With TC, image quality is not so great to my taste. So, I would like to have a sharp 400mm on apsc but Ricoh does not have it. Canon have it but it is not IS. Beyond the Canon 400mm f5.6, it's getting really expensive and heavy. I also considered the DA560 but I'm not impressed with the image quality at this price, it does not seem to be good value for me, the DA560 is almost the price of a Canon 500 f4 that I saw recently in a shop but the Canon is faster and better optically. Then considering the zooms: DFA150-450, no more reach than my DA300+TC, and no much sharper... and the DFA is heavier, so I stay with the DA300 TC combo that I already have. So, I also considered the Sigma 150-600 S, which I suppose would be a little sharper than the DFA150-450 but still not as good as a prime on apsc body, but... if I mounted a Siggy 150-600 S on a ff body, 600mm f6.3 would be like 400mm f4.5 on my K-3... so that would meet my goal, and the sigma 150-600 is not as expensive as a long prime, but then the Sigma 150-600 is not available in K mount (on a K-1 for example). So, I'm stuck. I recently had a look a the price of fluorite telescope such as Borg + field flatener + T mount... which in essence would deliver a better IQ than the DA560, similar reach, but cheaper and manual focus.

You've forgotten the 150-450 and TC option. Although I have to say, those Canon 500 ƒ4s look really nice when i see them in the field. I get better images much of the time by walking in a bit closer with my 60-250 and TC. I live in an area with a lot of cover and under brush, so long glass can be really limiting.

But , narrow it down to what you want, and price it out with the body you want.

Anyway, I have a K-01 and K-5 II and no intent of "upgrading" to a new camera - a choice not included in the poll.

Come on, no one else posted a poll. You know how I like to find out what everyone is thinking.
I can't keep track of all those opinions I read, in those other threads. I only remember the last one. With a poll, I don't have to, the computer does the percentages.

Given what we know to date, how many are thinking there is a K-1 in their future?

I was happy whith my K 7 for five years, now i have the K 3, and I'm really satisfied so far! How long will it get used? Maybe in five years we will have the K1 mark III. Or even better cameras from Pentax. Nobody knows the path photography goes. The future will tell!

I'm in. The only question is when. My initial thought had been "When my K-5 dies", and that will certainly be an absolute tipping point for buying it... but given the much-lower-than-expected price, I may move that forward.

It's looking like the K-1 is going to be a real K-3 killer. Planned upgrades to a K-3 is currently at zero after 23 votes.

Technically, I'm going to do the 4th Option 4 AND the 5th Option, so I'll likely be getting a K-3 or the K-3 III or K-3 IV or whatever comes next.

But before I do that upgrade in the APSC arena, I'll likely look very, very seriously at spending for the K-1.

So I chose the 4th Poll Option. Too bad I cannot vote for two. I don't think the high-end APSC line is dead. There are distinct advantages with "long work."

Yes, I also though about that... that would be f8. I tried the DA300+TC+TC = 600x1.5mm , it's a lot of reach but 600mm on APSC become hard to stabilize and at f8 the view finder is very dim. I feel that 600mm on FF or 400mm on APSC is just the right focal length. I saw that you use a A 400 f5.6 manual focus, and I thought "yeah, that's the right focal length".

It's looking like they are going to sell a boat load of K-1s , just from the preliminary results, only 1 of 15 not planning to buy a K-1.

Years of pent-up demand and a stunning price, they've got a hit on their hands I think.

Now, that doesn't guarantee I'm not ending up with a K-1 as well at some point, but I don't plan on getting one. Ricoh's lower than expected pricing doesn't "help", though...

Happy with my K-5 and K-3, for full frame I use the Z-1, will get a K-1 in maybe 2 years time second hand when prices are reasonable.
But, looking at what new APS-C model is coming out next.

I can think of all the options needed. But the 300 option limit on polls might be a problem...
I'd make sure to include my option:
I have a K-50 and would love a K-1 but don't have the money for it, actually I'd love a K-3 but I don't have the money for that either. Actually, scratch that, I'd like some better lenses but I don't even have the money for that.

Forgot to mention that my 35mm film bodies have put me on notice that if a K-1 is purchased, they will stage a walkout and the lenses will go out with them on sympathy.
