The metering mode does effect the way the camera interprets the light in a scene. Take a look at page 132.

AE Metering

• Multi-segment
• Center-Weighted Average
• Spot metering

The EV compensation is not canceled when turning off the camera, so you might want to take a look at page 143.

Exposure compensation / Aperture value

Hold this button and turn the command dial to set exposure compensation (-2.0 to +2.0 EV in 0.3 or 0.5 EV steps) - not available in all modes. In manual exposure mode hold this button and turn the command dial to set aperture, turn the dial on its own to set shutter speed.

After that you might take a look at page 174. This page is about setting the camera to display the histogram.

Off topic (a bit) Seeing that Pentax didn't come out with a k210d, it makes me wonder why anyone would have bought a k110d in the first place, you can turn the SR on and off as needed. Was the list price on the k110d that much lower than the k100d when it came out? I love the SR on my Pentax,couldn't live without it, like having a car in Dallas without A/C in the summer.
