trickle down GAS- all primes, all pentax

I recebtly replaced my k-5 with a k-3II and flash. I then sold the k-5 and figured that by oessing a teleconverter and tamron lens i could afford a couple of good primes to go with it.

So instead of just getting a camera and flash, I got a camera, flash and two lenses for no more money out of pocket by selling old gear. Ive termed this trickle down gear acuasition syndrom- where an upgrade in one area funds upgrades in other areas.

So ive eliminated zooms from my setup and now have all pentax primes:
DA HD 15 F4
FA 35 F2
A SMC 50 F1.7
M SMC 100 F4 macro
That will be my new walkwaround setup, replacing a tamron 17-50. Ive been wanting an all prime setup for a while. I think a lot better about compostion and lighting eith them and enjoy the extra depth of field control with the bigger aperture.

For wildlife i have the DA* 300 F4.

Anyone else have trickle down GAS?

Nice set. Your ready for the K-1.
I feel the same way about the primes. or I and intellectually overwhelmed by zooming and exposing correctly...
I am eager to get some new DFA* primes.

I love primes as well. Though I do have the need for a zoom now and again. Especially when shooting weddings. Most portrait work is done with prime lenses though.
When I am able to swing it I plan on getting a K1 with the 31, 43, and 77 Limited as a three lens walk around kit.

the K-1 is out of my budget for the foreseeable future. But the 25/50/100 will see some action on my K1000 for sure.

Where's @Nicholas06?

There is something really core Pentaxian about an all-Pentax all-prime kit.

I love my primes. There's a little buzz every time I use them - even the humble DA 35. Having zooms and primes is like having a sedan and a sports car in your garage. You much prefer to drive the sports car, but usually the sedan is good enough, an easier drive, and it's often more practical.

Great if you can manage it but there must be a limit to how often. Especially when selling zooms (which don't tend to hold their value as well as primes) and camera bodies, which devalue pretty quickly.

I am there. I had zoom like 17-70 and 50-135... Tryied first DA35 f/2.4, DA21, then FA77... I finally sold the zoom lenses and now have mostly primes: DA15, DA21, DA35ltd, FA77, F135.

Recently I got a 10-17 for Christmas and a 55-300 for birthday. But theses lenses are more or less special use. The 10-17 is for fun, and the 55-300 is for my safari in Tanzania.

For regular photos, I like to just wander arround with DA15 or DA21 + FA77.

What I would hate is to have 15 or 30 lenses and almost never used each of them in practice. I not going to have all with me, and if it stay at home, that doesn't help if it render beautifully. I don't get people that have 5 50mm or want keep FA28 + FA31 + FA35 + DA35 f/2.4 + FA35 f/2 + FA43... Likely, you could do with just one.

And I agree, bodies loose their value faster than lenses. A used K3 is like $500 while a new K3-II is $850... That 350$ saving to get basically the same thing!
