My curiosity got the better of me and I did an unscientific test not to see if one is better than the other but only how they differed or were the same. Both shots from the same distance, Sigma 150-500 Bigmos @ 500mm + Kenko 1.5x TC, 1/2000 @ f/11, ISO 6400, PP in LR CC only to reduce highlights (both at -100), full image resized to 1024 px on the long edge.

K-1.

K-3
I think both are great, the K3 shot maybe just a little over exposed which may acct for different rendering as this was not nor was it said to be a particularly controlled test. It was shot outside so light could change a little from shot to shot.

Thanks. It confirms my understanding.i.e In good light, K3 does extremely well up until ISO 6400. Only when the light levels drop ( e.g in a dimly lit bar) would the K1 pull out ahead decisively compared to K3 from ISO 1600 and above. Pixel shift is another story though. K1 punches way above its weight with PS.

In good light the K-3 is still the go to body for wildlife unless you can fill the frame of the K-1.

No doubt about it.. K1 looks more natural and color has better rendering.
Hmmm, I disagree; both look very similiar as far as natural & color. If Steve had not labeled which was which, it would be a new ballgame.

To me the fur looks more detailed. But it is difficult to say without prints made at the same image size.
