Hi. I am wondering where Pentax moves next in high-end APS-C cameras. Will there be a K-3 iii? I have seen some spurious rumors on youtube, but nothing to confirm them. Or will Pentax go for a redesigned brand new flagship APS-C camera. I have no idea what they could call it. They seem to have burnt the bridges in naming the K-1 the K-1. The K-2? I'd Iike to see 24MP, 10 fps, 4K video etc. etc. Does anyone have any idea?
Even an updated K3 needs updated glass. Lenses are really the question here. And lenses will guide where the next Pentax camera may go.
10fps, etc. without any specialm glass for it make no sense.

Updated lenses are always good, especially faster focus motors in lenses (a worthy upgrade for most Pentax lenses) but I feel improved autofocus tracking will generate more keepers. For example a skimmer flying low and fast over the water is a tough subject. Perhaps with good panning you get a couple in focus but I am guessing more than half will be out of focus not because the fps isn't fast enough, and assuming you are able to get the lens to focus initially, probably not because the lens cannot adjust focus fast enough. It is just the in the case of my K3 the camera's tracking is not as good as it should be. Admittedly much better than my K5 was but overall still pretty much a weak sister for a flagship camera. I sense the new DFA Zooms are up to the task. I feel it the K3 that is the weak link.

- Tethering support
- 20MP resolution
- UHS-II and XQD
- USB 3.0
- app. 10 stills per second at full resolution
- better and faster AF-C
- enormous buffer size for burst mode...
- KAF4
- PDAF aboard the sensor
- 4K Video (i would also accept cropped sensor size in video mode like on the Nikon D500)
- Articulated screen like KS2 or just tilting like on the 645Z
- Small improvement on PDAF tracking to match K1 algorithms.
- Ergonomics of the K-5--- just turn that lever that sits on the right of the display the other way around (WITHOUT THOSE F. REDUNDANT WHEELS THAT CRIPPLED THE TOP-LCD ON K-1) and add a "lock/write-protect picture" function to the "AE-L button" when in review mode.
... whooops.. was that me writing in capital letters? sry, my bad

- plus all the other features found on K-3II and on K-70 added up together as possible of course

Many good ideas here. My wish is for a solid performing AF.C performance especially Tracking. The frame rate of the K3 is OK for me, rather than faster I feel reliable tracking, as already mentioned before, is what I need in the K-3 follow on. The rest is icing on the cake. I would also like to see a revision to the 560 lens, version 2.0, with fast focus motors and, if possible, improved CA correction.
They'll need to sell out the existing inventory of DA 560 before there will be an update. One poster here who seems to be informed suggests at the present rate of sale it will be years . . . .

Why would anyone buy it? Sigma 500/4.5 is better and cheaper. It is just an overpriced F5.6 lens. Do not expect this to be a hot-selling object.

I want better AF with more focus point; K1 APSC array work for me; Better High ISO, Moon lander screen, better video codec with mechanical SR and 2k resolution.

That not really the point here. The sigma not that easy to get new on K-mount anyway and we are accustomed to have branded lenses being signfiicantly more expensive than third party. Many would consider only buying Pentax so or think the branded lenses to have something more...

Also, any lens that cost as much be it the best bargain in history or very expensive will have low sales from price alone.

As for Pentax what the point to make another overpriced lens that would not sell when there already one for the few that want it? If theses still 3 years inventory, it make sense to get back that money before making something new... And if nobody buy, there no reason to make a new one anyway.

Top notch AF and tracking is the common, almost universal, request for the next Pentax.
If they deliver that, we'd have 8 [keeper] fps. More than that is video or too specialised (read expensive).
No need to replicate all the other usual needs/requests, I'll just add:
- UHS-2, or else the possibility of writing to dual cards in parallel, not serialized like currently. This means when one frame has been processed, send it to the card that's available while the other is writing, which would effectively double the write speed. The images would be all over the place, but who cares? At the end of the day, they all go the same way
- Customizable fps for both high and low would be nice and can be done by software
- Pentax being user orientated, auto-adjustment of focus in lenses like some famous brand has. Again, a software add-on that is quite helpful
- The metering still can't cope with the English grey skies
- Same battery, or 18650
- DON'T increase the MP

That's silly, there is a lot of nice glass in the system.

There is a lot of aging glass in the system. Much of the crop lens lineup could use updating imo..

I hope Ricoh/Pentax K-whatever-their-name-APS-C-flagship come with:

- Better AF. My fellings are that hesitant lock-on is the major problem with pentax af system. If they could adress this, make more decisive, will automatically make it faster and more effective.

- 8-9 fps will work for me if the AF is bettter.

- deeper buffer will be cool to have to.

- even better DR, is most important to me than a supernatural High ISO setting.

- Don't need a flip-out LCD screeen, but if have it, i'll use it.

- I don't need higher resolution. I'm fine even with 16mp, but hope for 24mp, to keep overall speed.

- Faster card/readout. It's about time to UHS II specification. XQD or Cfast are to much expensive now.

- Updated DA* lenses. The DA16-50, for instance, is a good lens, plagged by a poor AF system and a so-so build quality.

- and, keep the design / size/ weight as much as possible the same as the K5-K3 line. Those are the best design at all, in my opinion.

Well, pretty much waht everyone here is asking for.

To better your best means to continually improve. Pentax lenses need a lot of improvement particularly in AF. Probably if we can improve the image quality little by little would also be okay. As a standard upgrades must be WR at the very least.
