should i get K10D or K200D

well i was so close to buying the K10D today, but i decided to wait and do some

research. I was just reading some info from consumer reports and it rated the k200D

higher than the k10D. and the price difference doesnt seem to be that much

between the two, so i was hoping that you guys could give me some insight on

which camera i should buy.... i got a $800-900 budget.

also is theres another pentax Dslr thats better than the two mentioned above that

fall into my budget? or are these two pretty much my best options for my budget.

thanks,
ben

Ben, this topic has been discussed ad nauseum in this forum.
I realise you're relatively new - you can try doing a search in the forum typing in "k10 k200", and see what you get.

Very hard to know which is better for you - it's best really to have both models in your hand and test them out yourself.

Features? Quite similar, but K10D is easier to customise and change settings, whereas K200D has a slightly better sensor and thus image output, esp. when shooting JPEGs. I chose K10D, but that's just me - look into the features that you 'need' and then test the cameras out - you'll make a much better judgement for yourself then...

That's easy. The K200D is $500 brand new on Adorama after rebate. Runs until 26th. But if a couple of extra hundreds is no problem, then do a research.

Does anyone know if split screen can be installed in the K200D?

I have to tell you, I went to the store and played around with both the K10D and the K200D, and quite frankly, they are both the same except for a few issues..and please correct me anyone if I miss on these general points:
1- K10 is heavier
2- K10 has dedicated buttons for dbl exposure, metering, LED light to read top panel, proprietary battery, 32 custom functions

For me, I purchased the K200D because I got a great deal on it (w/ battery grip, sling bag and warranty) and most of the operations were the same except for the dedicated buttons for dbl expo and metering. Other than that, they are almost the same camera--except for the weight factor. I've had the K200 for about 3-4 weeks now and I love it. I had the *istDL, but needed more MP and auto-focus points and K200 very quick in focusing.

The custom white balance function is amazing. The colors were so accurate!

Picture-wise, they should be nearly identical. The differences come when comparing the bodies. The K10D is more advanced and it's controls are more user-friendly (second dial, less menu diving). The power source for each is also different, as the K10D uses Li-Ion and the K200D uses AA's. Everyone prefers something different there. The K200D is a bit smaller and lighter, but I don't think by much.

K10D vs K200

I own the K10D and use it with older Pentax lenses. I picked the K10D because it has a view finder which is reportedly easier to focus than the K200. So if you plan to use manual focus, you should consider this difference.

i think k10d is a good choice as its has more shortcut button on the backside, which is easy to change the setting when you take photo.
If you want to taste something new, k20d, no doubt!

Just to add something from above..

If you want good JPEG than I guess K200D is the way..
If you shoot RAW K10D.. Although JPEG is goo enough.. just not good for those pixel peeping guys..

For me, am gonna upgrade to K10D..

I would choose k10d for a better view finder and better buttons on the body.

I have 2 K10D's and a K100 and find the controls a lot easier on the 10D's. Also I am not sure if the 200D has wireless flash??? which I use regularly

My first post !! I got my new K200 just yesterday and have been experimenting a little. It is simple to use (so far) and the image quality is amazing. I was fortunate to get the camera with a 18-55mm lens, a 50-200mm lens and the vertical grip for (after $125 rebate) cost of $873. Seems like alot of camera for the money to me.

I haven't used my film SLR in a number of years and my previous digital experience is mainly with P&S. However, I think the K200 is going to be easy to learn.

No experience with K10 but I am happy with my purchase...
