I think you will find that it is more about the difference between *istD series and K series.

If you look at my perspective, that the back up should really bring something different to your system, the *istD series and the D specifically can do things the K series can't or can't do very well.

The biggest points I see are TTL flash, which is vital for wild life, sports, and when using K lenses, and the metering accuracy with K lenses, give you something that the K series cannot. I look at my *istD as a suplement to the K10D, not a back up.
