What has happened to Samsung in Australia??

Just before leaving for NZ in May I was told that Samsung were about to make a big splash in the dslr market...and to watch out for the PMA conference when big things were touted.

Well, Samsungs presence at the PMA in Brisbane (where more than one of us heard about these big future plans) was certainly impressive, with the GX20....but now they seem to have slipped off the radar and into oblivion. I have been looking around on various websites here in Aus and not a Samsung to be seen anywhere, bar an old GX1 (6mpx).

Very strange to have put in all the effort at the PMA and then ....nothing?

Anyone know anything.?

closest i've seen is teds offering the GX20 + rebranded DA kit 18-55 for about 100 less than the K20d + Sigma Kit.

Would be nice if they got into gear though.

Not sure if this has had an effect... maybe big mega bucks in their Olympics Mobile Promo has had an influence in corp dollars being spent.

Samsung Gets A Marketing Makeover - Channel News

I purchased a GX20 for more than $200 less then the Pentax K20 was being sold and I am as happy as a pig in you know where with it.

I actaully wanted the Pentax name badge but after much study I could not justify spending the extra for near on exactly the same product.

My 3 new lenses however have all got the Pentax label All are great.

Very hard as well to find any info and data on the Sammy compared to the Pentax, which makes me wonder if they are sorry for going into some sort of agreement with Pentax for they are not in any way pushing the camera

Ted's Camera's were selling the GX20 with the kit lens last month for AU$1,300.00!!! their price for the K20D was AU$1,800.00!!!! that is a huge difference, and if those prices hold then Samsung may well make some inroads.

The problem is, though, that they will probably largely be taking market share from potential Pentax buyers. The pricing may allow them to snaffle some of the budget-end Canon/ Nikon buyers. maybe.

Which kit was on the K20D?

i see the K20D everywhere with the sigma 18-50 DC kit. It would make very damn good value if the GX20 was selling at that price with the Schneider badged DA 18-55

that's only 70 more expensive than the K20D body at DCW

Thats what I got mine for with the kit 18-55 lens. At the same time the Pentax K20 with sigma kit was also on special at Teds for around $250 more.

The shop I brought from in Doncaster had only one of each left in stock and it was the last day of the speacial... had to buy mine off the display shelf and they gave me a further discount by throwing in a bag, sd card and a filter.
