Battery selection for K5.

I am looking for a second and third replacement battery for my K5. It seems that original D-LI90 are rare in ebay and expensive. What third brand would you suggest for maximum performance and reliabilty?

Check with KEH. I believe that have D-LI90 batteries for around 30 dollars. Other than that, I have been using Wasabi batteries that I got from Amazon. Not as good as the Pentax battery, but will hold you while your Pentax is charging.

K-5 uses the same battery as K-3 and K-1. So not sure why they would be 'rare'? Standard OEM battery is available on Amazon, ebay and dozens of other sellers.

If you really want a third party battery I have had good success with Wasabi. : Wasabi Power Battery (2-Pack) and Charger for Pentax D-LI90 and Pentax 645D, 645Z, K-01, K-3, K-5, K-5 II, K-5 IIs, K-7 : Digital Camera Batteries : Camera & Photo

The Wasabi battery will work in place of the Pentax D-LI90, but it had been my experience, over time, that they lost their ability to hold a charge at a noticeably faster rate than do the Pentax OEM's. For that reason, I quit using them.

I'd also recommend the original Pentax battery. While more costly, it'll probably pay off in the long run, as the same battery is shared with pretty much every high-end Pentax model.

If you insist on buying third-party, wasabi batteries get good reviews.

I only use Pentax brand. I tried using other than Pentax, but they did not hold a charge as well and became useless.

My Wasabi batteries kicked out after about a year. They still work but don't hold a charge as well and will suddenly just report "empty." Mostly they're ok but for what they cost, better to replace them. I use them a lot, nearly every weekend and have many weeks of multiple charges. Thing is that the Pentax OEM battery would have to last 4 years to be a better value, since I can buy 4 Wasabi batteries for the price of one OEM battery. It makes it hard to recommend the OEM battery when you can carry 3 spares for the same price.

I just picked up four of the DTSE batteries to replace them. Cost was $35 and included two extra chargers. The OEM charger is better but I only have two of those and sometimes, just sometimes, I need to charge four batteries.

i would take a look at the power2000 at Adorama.

I have been using them in the K-7 and the K-30 and they seems pretty good so far - hold charge nicely. Can't speak long term though as i haven't had them long enough.

D-li90 seems that does not have D-LI90 either genuine or third party. Amazon lists genuine D-LI90 for fifty US dollars and it does not ship to Athens Greece. I always prefer to buy genuine batteries for cameras because they give the best performance. But fifty dollars seems ridiculously expensive. I will think about it a little more. Thanks for the replies.
