Tamron 70-200 2.8 Di Ld

About to buy it for my K-1, wanted to see if anyone has any opinions on this lens? I'm aware that Pentax 70-200 is better, but i can't afford spending that much for a lens right now, and i want a long reach zoom for portraits and telephoto landscapes. This lens seems to have good reviews in general. Opinions?

It's a very good choice for the money. We'll have some comparisons between it and the D FA* 70-200mm on the homepage soon

I have owned the Tamron 70-200 lens for a few years now and I am very satisfied with it. It is a great deal for the price. It is a screw drive auto focus so a bit slower. I tend to use manual focus a lot with my longer lenses. Probably a holdover from using manual focus lenses for over 40 years. Close focusing too. It also has wonderful bokeh.. Here is an image from last July at a local park.

One of my best lenses, excellent sharpness on 24MP so on the K-1 it shouldn't be a problem. Slight softness wide open should be a bit less too. Not very good for tracking fast moving subjects but predictable medium and slow movement is not a problem. It really shines on portraits, becomes a poremaster at f/4. If you find one at a reasonable price don't hesitate, it is one of the best value lenses for Pentax.

Some examples, first one is with the 1.4x HD DA TC, rest is native.

I was thinking to get a new one from amazon, price is 2.5 times cheaper than pentax one, seems like an amazing bargain. I'll see if any used available, so far haven't seen any.

As far as I am concerned, in terms of sharpness etc. it is on par with the Pentax version. Excellent lens. Use it on my K3. Love it. Super value for cost. Works great on a K1.

Of course the Pentax will be better. But until you're lucky enough to own one, this is great. Good for sports and portraits, too:

I really like mine. It is optically a lot better than my FA 135 f2.8. Also, the screwdrive is not obnoxiously loud on the K-1 like it is for older bodies.
