This is just like my case sometime ago, I was so envious to Fuji users that they have now access to X-T10 plus XF 23/2 WR + 56/1.2 (wherein Pentaxland a K-S2 plus DA 21/3.2 + DA*55/1.4 seems okay too). If haven't got so much investment in Pentax, I think going to Fuijland is not a bad idea specially if you really value large aperture lenses and can afford their pricing (bnew/used).

Now which road did you take?

I don't think they are comparable. The X-T10 is a 16mp camera without Pixel Shift. If anything a K-50 or K-S2 might be the better comparison. However the X-T10 is a 14 bit raw camera so maybe the K-5iis would be more comparable.
I think as far as performance goes, it is pretty close to a K5 II. I think the biggest thing about Fuji is that it seems as though people who shoot with their cameras love their out of camera jpegs. On the other hand, there are plenty of folks who don't like Fuji jpegs and think their colors aren't quite natural.

If you are someone who does much post processing then you probably see the same sort of RAW performance compared to other camera brands. I always shoot RAW and would continue to do so regardless of the brand I used, so comparisons of out of camera jpegs is wasted on me.

To be honest, I was influenced by your arguments. So , I went to camera shop again, but every other alternative better than my K1 combo in Nikon or Canon is significantly more expensive. The only direction I could get cheaper Canikon gear would mean lower specifications. So, I'm still content with the Pentax K1 solution that is right at the door of the pro and very expensive gear: the next jump into better Canikon lens/camera specifications is > $10K.

Short version: for the same price as my K1 combo, I can'T find any other better system whatever the brand.
D810 with Tamron 24-70 and 15-30 is cheaper than K-1 with equivalent Penron zooms. Swap d810 to d750 and price is significantly lower than Pentax setup. K-1 has no real price advantage over anything as it is now.

Then you can just add more numbers, Nikkor 1.8G FX series is every bit as good as the limited lenses except they are plastic. If that is not a showstopper then...save up the money with Nikon. Clock is ticking for Pentax/Ricoh - publish own professional modern designs at the price of Tamron bubblegum solutions or perish. Drop the price of limiteds to reflect the competition and add new models.

I know many who would switch to Pentax if lens line would be up to modern standards.

I looked at B and H and the setup you indicate is 5294 for Nikon and 4688 for the Pentax version. That's about 600 dollars difference -- not huge, but a real difference.

Obviously this is US pricing and the equation may change significantly based on the country you live in and the support that Pentax offers there.

Yes, apparently we are Z-class customers in North Europe or at least in Finland. Those D-FA zooms are wildly priced and even if you want to pay the price they are not usually available. There is a reason I will buy locally and that is the need for service every now and then. Good dealer takes care of it.

About Fuji, well there was an argument above about K-1 pricing and there it went...

Fuji is rather good solution and has the most promising APS-C lens line of all manufacturers at this moment. Used X-T1 + few primes will do miracles.

Romanian prices:
Pentax K1 with Pentax 15-30mm and 24-70mm = 5.536$
Nikon D810 with Tamron 15-30mm and Tamron 24-70mm = 5.665$

Price difference = 129$

Canon 5Ds R with Tamron 15-30mm and Tamron 24-70mm = 6.289$ (or 6.044$ if you buy 5Ds)

Price difference = 753$ if you compare the price of K1 to the price of 5DsR (or 508$ if you compare the price of K1 to the price of 5Ds)

The problem is not the price difference which is not that big in Romania (at least not for a professional photographer). The "problem" is that with Canon/Nikon you have access to everything you can think of: flashes and triggers, third party lenses, you have the posibility to rent lenses and accesories, service, etc. And you have discounts almost every month for these 2 brands. For Pentax you barely find a lens in the store, you have no posibility to rent lenses or accesories and you don't find third party lenses. Not to mention the second hand market which is almost non existing for Pentax.

These are the reasons why professional photographers from Romania chose Canon/Nikon (even Sony) over Pentax and not because Pentax cameras aren't good. Pentax cameras are very good (everybody knows that), but as a system is not mature yet and it will take some time to be noticed in an already supersaturated market. And not to mention that when comes to our official Pentax dealer we are all wondering if it's ever going to wake up from its beauty sleep.

I'm in much the same boat. Tempted for a long-time and caved when I saw the recent close-out prices on the final few X-Pro 1 refurbs. I've now got two systems on the go, neither of which are entirely perfect (both are pretty close though) and neither of which I'm prepared to part with (yet).

X-Pro 1 + 35mm F2 WR - OVF with overlays and being able to see beyond the frame is fantastic; less weight is great; JPEGs are lovely; highlight recovery in RAW seems (subjectively) to be better than my K-30; 35mm F2 WR is a lovely lens (though I'll soon chop it in for the 23mm F2, which is my preferred focal length); shutter is significantly quieter than K-30... all in all, lots to like. It's quirky and slow at times but, I'm an amateur, I shoot one way only (candid street, zone/hyperfocal focus) and it works well for me. It's also great to be able to look down at the camera and quickly know where I'm at with shutter speed/aperture.

K-30 + DA 21mm Limited - Weather sealed is a huge plus (the 21mm has also proven it can survive a few drops of rain), AA adapter is fantastic (I sometimes go a whole week of shooting 1-2hrs per day without charging my Eneloops) and the DA21mm is by far and away my favourite lens ever (it's not pixel-peep perfect, but it hits a real sweet spot between 28mm and 35mm equivalency – to which FA31mm users will also surely attest – real distance scale, amazing colours and rendering etc.).

Maybe I should just throw it all in and go X100... I suppose what I'd like from Ricoh is a GR with a decent OVF/EVF and a DA21mm slapped on the front.
