The once I have are

Super Takumar 20mm f4.5

SMC Pentax 18mm f3.5

SMC Pentax-M 20mm f4

Cosina MC 20mm f3.8 (with A contacts)

SMC Penrax-F 17-28mm f3.5-4.5 fisheye

SMC Penrax-FA 20-35mm f4 AL GC

SMC Pentax-FAJ 18-35mm f4-5.6

Sigma 20mm f1.8 EX AL

I haven't tried the Takumar much on the K-1. But the others I can say something about.

The K 18/3.5 is a fantastic lens that still.holds up on digital full frame. Of course wide open the center is sharper than the corners, but close down 2 steps and it us sharp all over.

The M 20/4 is not as good as the 18mm, but much more compact. Corners does OK closed down.

The Cosina was my low budget solution to not being able to afford the A20/2.8 about 1990. It is surpricingly good for the money and also well built (full metal, unlike the Cosina A24 and 28mm). I think it is the same sold as Vivitar 21/3.8 with !-contact. I don't know if the Cosina 20mm without A contacs is the same optics.

The 17-28mm FE is a lens everyone should get to the K-1 and just as fun and usefull on full frame as the DA10-17 FE is on the cropped cameras. But it is a fisheye, so perhaps not what you want now.

FA 20-35mm f4 is a very attractive wide angle lens that I like for street shooting on the K-1. Closed to f8 it is hard to separate shots from the FA*24mm and FA35mm. Some light vignetting at 20mm.

FAJ 18-35mm. Not as good as the FA20-35mm (but of course a bit wider). Very plastic. Inexpensive. But for the money a good lens. Some vignetting at 18-20mm.

The Sigma 20/1.8 is a really good lens. I've used it a lot for labdscape on the K-1 and is very happy with the results. Only drawback is that it is big and heavy.

The Cosina 20mm or FAJ17-28mm might serve as inexpensive preliminary solution while you save up for the new 15-30mm?
Excellent info! Thank you

I've read this review:
Samyang 20mm f/1.8 ED AS UMC Review

Seems like a good lens overall, with few drawbacks (which is understandable).

Had a quick look at all of the lenses you've suggested. The FAJ 17-28 is not much cheaper than the Tokina 19-35 that I found, so I'm wondering what would be a better choice.

Couldn't find 20-35 for sale on ebay right now, but it looks very good from images on the review page.

Don't want to spend too much on this right now, I'd rather save up a bit and get 15-30 sometime next year)

If you want something really cheap, look for Zenitar 16mm 2.8 fisheye, it's a Russian lens, it's good from f4 forward (little soft at 2.8). The only downside is the manual focus and the fisheye effect (correctable to some point)

Well, seems there are few options up to $200 price point that's fairly good stepped down. Just a matter of picking one (and having some luck fishing on ebay ) I'd need an opposite of a fisheye though for interiors.

Slow aperture doesn't bother me too much, will be using f8-16 most of the time anyway. Is distortion easy to fix? That's one thing that kind of puts me off the SY14 2.8, as I want to do some interior & real estate stuff, and that mustache distortion might be a paint to deal with in post.

Interesting option, not sure how rare it is, but price marked in the review section is very attractive.
I've got a FAJ 18-35. It's ok but very cheap feeling. A little correction makes it pretty usable. I have a 15-30 now so I haven't used it in a while.
It needs a little correction but can produce a reasonable image I think.
Here's a shot from the 18-35 and K-1

The problem is that all used Pentax full frame lenses went up in price steeply from when Ricoh announced that there would actually be a FF camera. So did the FAJ and the 20-35mm.
I don't know the Tokina personally...but have noted that there are several Tokinas in this focal range, with quite different reputation. I considered them as well as some Sigmas in the same range about a year ago, but ended up with the FAJ very cheaply and after much patience the FA 20-35mm.
I'm happy with both.
The Tokinas are probably better built than the FAJ, but not better than the FA, which is built in the same style as my FA28, FA35, FA50/1.4, FA50 macro, FA135...meaning metal in combination with strong black plastic. But the FA20-35 is as you noticed relatively rare. I think it was a rather late design of the film era so not that many were sold before the APS-C era came and made 20-35mm less a usefull range.
One thing to remember is that 17mm is much wider than 19mm. The millimiters really matter in the ultrawide range.

Anyone has an observation on Irix 11 and 15mm for K-1? Where can I see some real world photos with them?

There are lots of them, Markovo.

You should really spend time in the Lens club looking at photos and reading your fellow forum members' experiences.

Hi Mark,
I have a little experience with both of them. I had the Blackstone versions. The build quality is excellent. The image quality is very good, with excellent colors. The 15 is a real jewel when it comes to using filters. I would buy them again, in a heartbeat . But, I sent them both back and got the D FA 15-30. I like it more, but the Irix is close.
