Kolari Vision for Pentax DSLR Infrared Conversion

Hey, well I guess it may come kind of late, But nonetheless, in case it's relevant to someone: Kolari vision is now converting Pentax K models to dedicated IR cameras- You can find more info HERE I hope this is useful.

Oh and by the way, here's what Dan Llewellyn (MaxMax) had to say about Pentax conversions:

Hi Cam,

Thanks for the interest, but I am not converting Pentax cameras anymore. To convert, I often have to spend hours desoldering wires from the main PCB to get to the sensor. It is easy to make an error and damage the camera, as well as the time taking too long. Pentax cameras are not engineered as well internally as a Sony, Nikon or Canon where all the connections are ribbon cables and snaps.

I don't know about LifePixel, but my guess is they don't do it for the same reason, both being "high-volume, fast turnaround" services, and seeing that modifying a Pentax takes more time and effort. This is a very honest answer, and I hope Kolari does a proper job with the conversion. I will be converting a K-01 (not listed, so I e-mail them for support with this model) and will post the results when/if I get the camera.

Finally! the camera arrived a few days ago and I've playing with it since then. Can't say enough good things about Ilija from Kolari Vision and his services. He was more than helpful with all of my questions. The service was inexpensive and the turnaround was relatively fast (about 5 days) The filter works fantastic (850nm), no spots or scratches, and he even replied to me right away after I sent him some follow-up questions. So if you're planning on having one of your pentax converted, I would definitely recommend Kolari Vision for the job.

Does anyone know if it is possible to get a Pentax dslr converted to IR (infrared-only) photography? Most places (, etc.) only convert Nikon & Canon. I would love to buy a used Pentax dslr and get it converted. But, I don't know if anyone can do the conversion.

Any suggestions???

LifePixels can do Pentax if you send a lens and battery too

Weshould be able to as long as you send it with a lens and battery. Turnaround time is 5-10 business days and the cost would be $350.

New member and late to this party, but for my last IR conversion (Sony RX100), I used this fellow who works independently. He lists several Pentax cameras he can convert. Highly recommended and very reasonable price-wise.
