I was under the impression that Bigma doesn't provide HSM to Pentax..But the new Sigma 150-500 does..

HSM is the Sigma version of SDM for Pentax, USM for Canon etc. Basically the AF motor inside the lens.

I have the Bigma, but not the one with HSM. I don't think it's out yet (and it's actually the 150-500, IIRC).

What specifically did you want to know? The Bigma is a great all around lens with very good image quality, especially given the extreme zoom range. What do you plan to shoot with it?

The Pentax version of the Bigma is not available for Pentax. It's screwdrive but the AF seems decent (at least for a lens of its speed, f/6.3 is really pushing it). The only times I've had AF problems are trying to handhold it in low light, and that's because the focus point keeps moving because I'm a weakling.

If you aren't in good shape with good upper body strength, I strongly suggest exercising. The Bigma has reminded me how out of shape I am.

It is without a doubt a daylight lens.

As others have said, the 150-500 will be coming with HSM, but given how long Sigma is taking to get the 70-200 out for Pentax, I'm guessing the 150-500 won't be out until sometime in 2009.

I don't have too much experience with the lens so far thanks to weather and time issues, but I like it so far.

Ask whatever you like, I have had the lens for over a year and taken in excess of 5,000 shots with it. Check out any of my motorsport threads to see what this lens can do.

Hey Iced,

Let's see some shots of Albany (pronounced "All-Bennie")! I used to live in Tifton and travelled all over south GA. Welcome to the forum.

There is a fellow (Roger) on another website that takes wildlife pictures with his K10D and 50-500 Sigma. He uses a Bushmaster brace for the unit. His photographs that he has posted are wonderful. Very impressive pictures. He also uses a top of the line Canon DSLR with a big Canon telephoto. These pictures are also tremendous.

He posts on Steve's, usually under wildlife. I'm not sure which pix is from the Pentax, which from the Canon. I think he id's sometimes which is the K10D/Bigma, which is the Canon.

Do you mean BushHawk instead of Bushmaster?

I have a few shots poster on Flicker, some of the first ones I took, still learning. There are a couple of boats one was about 400+ yards and the other over a mile. Most of these were taken with a tripod it is a hand full shooting freehand. If I can assist in any way let me know. Thanks
