I still wonder if the target was the weapons or not

of course, it really doesn't matter

my sympathies to the original poster and anyone else, who like me, have had vehicles broken into or been victims of any other crime.
NO.....the target was ALL my Camera gear...Nobody knew 2 firearms were in there.

I've been following this for a couple of days. Sorry that you lost your gear. Sorry that an extended family member was implicated. Just sucks all around.

Something to think about the supposedly unopened box...back in the day when LoJack tracking systems were popular in cars, thieves would steal a car and then park it in a remote place like an industrial park for a couple of days to make sure that the car didn't have LoJack. If the car was still there after a couple of days, they'd retrieve it and then use it or part it out, confident that they weren't being tracked.

I wonder if the perps are doing something similar?

Reasonable theory, but if they were being careful pros they probably wouldn't have given the easily tracked phone to someone they knew.

It sucks for the OP. He took good precautions. The gear that was in his van sounded more secure than my house.

*********busted***********

********UPDATE*********

*******BUSTED*********

I just received a phone call from a dispatcher in El Paso TX. @ 7:30 this morning ..... and was notified that my Rigid Box and contents were located and recovered at 6AM from a Motel room.
2 People were arrested when they returned from eating at a Local Dennys to the motel room ....... 1 has been held and is pendig multiple charges....The other person was released.....I was not given names.
All she could tell me about the contents recovered was Camera gear and firearms were recovered.....YES !!!!!!
I'm waiting for an officer to contact me at some point today with more specific information regarding serial numbers and pertinent information.
I didn't think they were going to recover anything at the rate things were going...... it took over 4 hours before they sent officers to the location .

Very Happy with my little GPS......Very Tired.

Great news that all your gear was recovered AND the guns did not make their way into the hands of more bad folks.

This is the GPS I used......It was just by accident it was even in the camera Bag or the contractors box at all , as I bought it to track something else for my Freelance Insurance Fraud work I occasionally get lucky at....... Cant say exactly What it was though......lol

STI_GL300 Real-Time GPS Tracker

I had it set for the absolute slowest update rate that was possible to preserve battery fife.
It can do real time if wanted , but that eats up the battery.
I covered it with black spray paint and a piece of Velcro to make it look like a small battery device with a Neodymium Magnet on one side....... Obviously it WORKS !

I consider myself very lucky....The Gods Just Smiled on Me Today !!
