This thread has is interesting and may be a money saver. I have been working myself round to buying a flash gun and would have prob' gone for the AF360FGZ. As I also have a GX10 it looks like this would have been a poor move.
As an alternative - has anyone got the Sigma EF-500 DG Super and using it successfully with the GX10 as this seems to be the alternative to the dedicated Samsung unit?

Unless the Sigma is a dedicated Samsung version, otherwise, I can't see how it would work. Because Corvax claimed that the hot shoe contacts in the Samsung camera are actually different (though not immediately apparent from the photos I posted above). So any Sigma flash designed for Pentax cameras would not work.

Sorry to revive an old thread. But I just wanted to ask what flash units other GX-10 owners are using. By the sounds of it the AF360FGZ isn't compatible and the Samsung unit is pretty hard to track down. Any other suggestions?

I haven't got either of the flashguns, but it seems that the Pentax ones are generally advertised as being 'for Pentax and Samsung digital cameras' e.g. on Amazon.

I find it hard to believe that there is a pin difference in the hotshoe.

I have the Samsung version of the AF540-FGZ and it's working fine on my K10D.

Not the same way round as the OP but maybe worth a mention.

I ended up just ordering the AF360FGZ anyway and will have a play with it and see how I go. Ordered from the US with a few other things to save on shipping. With the strength of the Aussie dollar against the US dollar at the moment it was very cheap compared to prices locally. In fact if I can't get it to work I will probably be able to sell it on locally at a profit.

I have a GX10 and use the Pentax AF360FGZ without any issues at all.

Thanks for that Chirpy, that is a bit of a relief.

Like I said it wouldn't be the end of the world if it didn't work as I could sell it on no probs anyway. Put it this way, I was able to buy the AF360FGZ, a stofen diffuser and a SMCP-FA 50mm f/1.4 for less than the flash on it's own would have cost locally.

Got my Samsung GX-10 today. The Af360FGZ flash works fine with it. Firmware rev 1.00. Tested with FA50/1.4 and DA16-45/4. Flash zoom works fine and shots were correctly exposed in P-TTL mode.

Where did you buy the Samsung flash? IS it really a complete clone of the Pentax counterpart?

It Works !

Like Nosnoop, I can't agree with Corvax when he says the hotshoes are different on a K10D and a GX10. For me, they are exactly the same.

I have a GX10 and a Sigma flash for Pentax (the 530 super). It works perfectly well on my GX10 (including the P-TTL measure, the wireless function, etc.) (of course, the wireless function requires that the firmware of the body - GX10 or K10D - has been updated).

So, it seems to me quite sure that a Pentax AF360FGZ flash is also compatible with a Samsung GX10.

Ah, revising an older thread ending in November, Batail. Fair enough, as I had intended to comment about it as well. In spite of it being used several times in this thread (such as Kemal's comment above), the word "clone," with it's widespread connotations of copy or imitation, is perhaps not the best to use here. The Samsung and Pentax cameras were jointly developed by the two companies and even share the same manufacturing facilities. Only the last stages of manufacturing (branding, minor cosmetics, firmware, etc) are handled differently. Therefore, neither company is copying or imitating the other. In other words, neither is a clone of the other.

This may all change at some point due to Hoya's recent acquisition of Pentax, but, as it stands now, I'm not aware of any hardware device (flash, lenses, etc) that will work on one and not on the other. The lone exception seems to be the K10D's battery grip. I've seen Pentax products used on matching Samsung products, Samsung products used on matching Pentax products, and 3rd-party products made for either used on both.
