Holiday camera advice

Hi all

This might sound like an odd question but I can't decide on which camera to use! Let me explain ...

I'm finally coming back to California for a 3 week fly-drive holiday in the Summer.

I have my trusty K-r and my relatively new KS2. The things I am considering are this: the KS2 is a more modern camera and has the weatherproofing BUT it's heavier and with us travelling all over as we please I would be less bothered if something was to happen to the Kr. But then is the KS2 a sturdier camera in the first place?? The other thing I considered was also the fact that I can adapt the Kr to use standard AA batteries.

As you can see I keep going around in circles so any advice would be appreciated!

The next question is this - what lenses would you recommend as a good travel package? I'm thinking my 18-135mm, 55-300 HD and possibly a wide angle lens of some description (which I don't own as yet so again recommendations appreciated).

Lastly, any suggestions on locations to visit? We fly into LA and fly out from San Fran but in between the itinerary is completely open so any good spots that may not be the usual tourist fayre would be good.

Sorry for the long post but any advice gratefully received.

Ha! Excellent advice, but of course it better to take the Q7 which improved the quality of image, and I suggest the superior 06=tele zoom, even if it means leaving the 02=standard zoom behind. The 01 and 08 are fantastic.

The difference in weight between the K-r and K-S2 after you have added these lenses is insignificant- so if you're sticking with a DSLR take the K-S2 and a decent camera bag or ideally a small backpack.

Enjoy the trip.

I'm jealous! We went on a 3-week road trip in summer 2015 starting in SFO and heading north rather than south. I'd think that Yosemite would feature; we're certainly going to see El Capitan when we go back.

On our trip I took the K-5 plus the then-new 20-40 plus the 55-300; it was all I needed.

Take the KS2. It will be worth it for the increased IQ. I'd consider what you have as traveling light, and I can tell you that the 18-135 will likely be on your camera 90% of the time.

I would agree with this 100%. The K-S2 + 18-135 combo would make an ideal travelling team. If you go to the Sample Photo search and put that combination in, you can see what photographs other members have achieved. It is a good cross section of image types. Enjoy your trip, and post some pix when you get back !!!

I agree with the DA 18-135mm.

I went to Italy and my most used lens what my DA 18-250mm because it was so convenient. I have 3 photos hanging on my wall shot with my K200D and that lens.
