Also I think it should also depend on the size of the image being examined for film. If the film was a 5x7 for example it wouldn't show the motion blur nearly as much as a 100% crop of a 24mp file.

I can hand hold a 50 mm lens at 1/30s. proven in dozens of film and digital images.

So, one stop better
1/15s

Two stops better
1/8s

Three stops better
1/4s

Four stops better
1/2s.

That would be just nonsense. I still can't hand hold better than 1/8s using any of my SR bodies. SO where does this 4 or 5 stop thing count?
I think they say using a 18-135 at 135mm on APSC. In theory without help you need 1/200s. With 3.5 stops, you need 1/20s, 4 stops 1/16, 5 stops 1/8s.

To me, in practical term I can get 1 stop easily on a WA and 2 on teles. After that well that's quite optimistic.

That makes a lot of sense except of "18" as it shall not matter if it is 18-135 or any lense capable of 135?

I guess the size/weight/volume of the lens could significantly change the level of shake of a real user... But in the end I think that just the lens they used for certification.

All that is important is the ultimate enlargement ratio.

Acceptably still was defined long ago as 1/100 of an inch on a 8x 10 print.

It does not matter where the shake is, either in the film or blowing it up. But the definition remains the same

When the discuss circles of confusion on any medium, this is what they are talking about. A circle of confusion is 1/100 on that same 8x10 print divided by the magnification ratio from a full frame negative / image ( note I mean a full frame of the native format) to the print

I'm pretty skeptical on the 5 stop claims as well. I usually think of sr aiding me vaguely.
one can hope.

i have shaky hands but was able to shoot keepers on my a6000 at 1/10 probably 95% or better of the time. without stabilization, i'm lucky to get half the shots at 1/40th, so stabilization can make a huge difference.
