I saw that video too.

He's categorically wrong. Ricoh has stated officially when asked on social media that the KP is not this year's APS-C flagship, and that the K-3ii successor is forthcoming. This is a new mid-range camera.

No it does not. But here's a specs comparison:

Due to the fact that it's newer, it's obviously going to pull ahead in some areas, such as the UI.

It's definitely way ahead in high ISO performance! However, it's been deliberately held back in a few areas so that it does not categorically trump the K-3 II. It depends on your needs which one ranks higher at the moment. The coming true APS-C flagship should leave no doubt.

I guess Ricoh have two engineering teams: team A working on new tech, and team B doing re-looking of exiting camera models to release variants of the main technology platform.
The K10,K20,K7,K5,K3, K1 were done by team A. K100, K200, K30,K50,K500,KS1,KS2,K70,KP done by team B. I suppose team B reuse what's done by team A, camera body design + tweak of firmware + product qualification.
I suppose team A currently busy working on a new medium format model or a new apsc flag ship (new AF module). Team B having done the KP; and now possibly working of a re-spin of the K1 (e.g mid range 24Mp full frame with 7 FPS).

My answer for the KP would be: the KP is a light weight stylish camera with the inner guts of the K3, + some software tweaks on image processing and AF.
