K-S2 vs K-70 - $100 difference or a lot more?

Forgive me if this is a sore topic, but I am wondering why anyone would get a K-S2 over a K-70 today since the K-70 is only $100 more. It seems to my untrained eye that the K-70 is "better" in many of the features. I do understand budgets and I also understand that the K-70 is new so someone who bought the K-S2 when it was new didn't have a choice, but I'm just curious what (other than a tight budget, which I am familiar with after my recent LBA splurge) would cause a person to get the "lesser" of the two cameras?

BTW, I have a beloved but very much "lesser" K-r so I am not intentionally slamming K-S2 cameras or their owners. I am thinking of upgrading and I'm wondering if that $100 is going to cause regrets one way or the other.

The K-70 is very similar to the K-S2, but with the upgraded sensor and 14-bit RAW, I'd say it's well worth $100 more.

Kind of what I thought but best to ask anyway. Thanks!

just the grip on K70 is worth $100 over ks2. On ks2, the lower part of the grip does not give enough support under my hand and I had to put a lot of force on middle finger when I need to move my thumb and'or index finger. K70'S grip has sort of k5's feeling.

Yes, worth the money to get the K70 in fact it is honestly a no brainer! Yes I think the K70 is worth the extra 100 or 150 over the KS2.

It is now only 100 more, but soon prices will adjust given that fewer people will want it.

That difference is in your country, in mine (at least last November) the difference was more 46% (549 euros for the K-S2 versus 799 euros for the K70).

So for me it was a no brainer - the K70 was not a (almost) 1,5 better camera -, and I’m a very pleased K-S2 Stormtrooper user now.

Don't forget the K-70 also has the pixel shift resolution feature, which the K-s2 doesn't. Not only is the sensor different 24 instead of 20mp. It also has better noise performance due to a in camera noise filtering chip. I would sooner compare it to the KP than the K-S2.

And that's exactly the reason some on these forums have actually preferred the K-S2 over the K-70.

For some, the smaller size is deciding factor and if it also saves a bit of money (enabling one to buy more lenses) so much the better.

This was one of my deciding factors for getting the K-S2 to replace my K-5, and I've been very happy with the S2.
The KP was starting to get my interest with talk of how small it is, but apparently it's a bit larger than the S2.
My old K-10D was capable of taking better pictures than I was capable of taking with it, but for me that's been true going back to my first SLR the K1000.

Which is more likely to experience reliability (block) issues?

Yes, there's that. The K-r is actually perfect for my hand size, but I also think it's because I'm used to it. I hadn't used my ME Super for ages but I picked it up once (before donating it to a local photo club) and it seemed tiny. My finger didn't naturally go to the shutter release like it does with the K-r.

Looking at comparison grid, I see:

K-70 125.5 x 93 x 74 mm -- K-S2 122 x 91 x 72.5 mm -- K-r 125 x 97 x 68 mm -- and for fun, KP 131.5 x 101 x 76 mm and ME Super 131.5 × 83 × 49.5 mm

Hard to tell which dimension would be troubling, the differences seem insignificant, but a few millimeters here and there might make the difference.

There's also the related issue of weight.

The K-S2 weighs the same as the K-R but the K-70 is 30% (9.3 oz.) heavier. Thanks, MrB1, for catching this. I accidentally got some weight specs that included a kit lens. The K-70 is only slightly heavier than the K-S2.

It's a personal choice -- some like a lighter camera (for travel, hiking, etc.) and some prefer a heavier camera (for balance with bigger lenses and hand-holding stability).

The K-S2 is almost the same as the K-70 (618g v. 628g). It is the K-S1 that is much lighter (498g)
