The thing is, it *should* be working a bit differently than it is. It sure looks like the flash barely fired, and there must be a reason for that. Chances are pretty good looking at the EXIF would uncover it. Could you post a link to your Flickr photostream so we can see the EXIF info in your pictures?

But I still say if your mother's face looks yellow or orange to you in the shots you posted, you need to calibrate your monitor, as it looks dark but unnaturally bluish to me, as if lit by very weak flash.
