K3-ii or wait

Prices in Europe have yo-yoed a bit but you can pick up a K3-ii in Belgium for 899. I have no major trips planned so, in theory, I could wait a bit longer. That is why I wonder when the K3-ii will be replaced and what the price point of such a successor would be and whether there would be a real leap in focus performance, which seems to be the only bug bear the K3-ii still grapples with (I care little about shooting video). All highly speculative, I know, but I have this itch to get some new gear

On a K5 currently which just turned six years old.

You say you can wait... but how much longer? Can you wait until the next year, and then some? Would you buy it once it's available - for a high price, or you'd rather wait a bit?
OTOH, if you get the K-3 II, will you be able to upgrade once its replacement will be available, or it must be another 6 year old purchase?

Nobody can say anything about the K-3 II replacement's features.

In what way is your K-5 limiting you?

I have the K-5. I decided to go full frame (for the sake of my film lenses) and made the obvious purchase, but had I not, I would have been in no hurry to upgrade.

I would wait if the K-5 still functions well. You could probably still pick up a K3-II for less when a new body comes out (or a KP). Or choose to dish out cash for the k-3 II successor.

Just wait....

Your K-5 is just fine. I have a K-5iis and I am waiting for things to change too.

Relax... Awesome things are coming and if you don't want to fork out the $$$$ for the new K-3iii or whatever it will be called, you can buy your K-3ii since you already know you like it.

I guess the point is - do you feel that you're missing anything. If not, then certainly hold off. I went from K-5 to K-3II with the intention of continuing to use both, but in reality have only used the K-3II since I got it, except for the very odd occasion when I've needed the 55-300PLM on the K-3II and quick change to the 20-40 on the K-5.

The combination of greater sensor resolution and lack of AA filter of the K-3II have allowed my 20-40 Limited to perform at a noticeably higher level than it did on the K-5, and the AF performance is certainly much improved. Then there's the pixel shift! These points were important for me but YMMV.

Given that the cost of the next flagship APSc is likely to be at least double the current deals on a K-3II, it's of course your call.

If you can afford it buy it. Who knows when they will announce the k3ii replacement let alone start shipping it.

I have a six year old K-5 too, and K-3II is not interesting at all. KP is the only APS-C camera that is slightly interesting, but its much to expensive. I will definitely go full frame with my next camera. K-1 or its replacement. New or used.

I have both a K-5 and a K-3. I do not find my K-5 lacking in any way except for that I cannot use the 55-300 PLM on it. Otherwise it gives me everything I need as an almost equal to the K-3. I considered the K-P but considering what it would cost and what more would it give me, I decided my K-5 which is in perfect condition does not need to be upgraded.

Food for thought: if you decided to wait, in the future you might have to choose between the KP and whatever APS-C flagship they'll make.
In other words, at some point the K-3 II could start vanishing from stores.

And increasingly appearing in the Marketplace here; secondhand perhaps, but both inexpensive and lovingly cared for.

You will always be chasing technology for the latest and greatest ...and then something new and greater comes out shortly after you made your purchase. Buy the K-3ii. It's a great camera at a good price. You'll be happy with it.
