Yesterday's moon at dawn. It's the first time I ever shot the moon and managed to get anything other than a black background.
Full size and a crop (both reduced obviously....)
perhaps just a bit too much sharpening on the crop.
Sigma 50-500mm at 500 with the Tamron 1.4x TC

RH it's nice to finally see you post a picture. Good shot, it looks like you managed to push the exposure to the limit with out going over. Thanks for posting.

This is the first time I see a photo from you, RH Glad it's a Moon.

Here's my latest attempt. My wife told me the Moon was rising over the houses in front of our balcony so I set up the tripod and used the K10D + Sigma CAT 400mm f/5.6 + Tamron 1.4x TC, so I shot at 560mm f/8. I had wanted to test the TC with the mirror lens for a while, as I'd read that these lenses don't fare well with TCs. While not fantastic, the result isn't too bad either. Frame is a crop (in case it's not obvious).

This was taken at about the same phase as Wildman's pic, so I can compare exactly how far I need to go to get a result as great as his. Yeah, it's quite far

Here's my shot from 23rd August. Got home one night and saw a beautiful clear moon in the sky and just had to shot it. My first try shooting the moon

hey all

this is my attempt

I used a Sigma 70-300mm APO with two 2x teleconverters at 300mm . Effective mm of 1800mm. With a pentax K100D... i still love this camera ! Not bad for a 70quid lens

I think you meant 1200mm (300 x 2 x2 = 1200) but regardless when I saw the email note of your post, I thought this will be mush. Too much multiplying on a lens that is known to be softer at the long end. Then I clicked on the link. I'm pleasantly surprised at how good the IQ is. It's got a few issues but a very usable photo. Good stuff.

Well, I was on holiday last week, and I didn't get much time on internet... Anyway, I come home check my favourite forum and I see RH thread with 4 pages of replies, and I think OMG, shall I even dare to read it?!? I did, and gladly I see that RH displays picture (and actually nice one) instead of some argument and it still does the trick... Rice High, how do you do that? I never get so many replies on any of my thread ... ;-)
