I didn’t know about that but did some research. Opinions on this are mixed and some mention slightly increased shadow noise compared to leaving D-Range off, so it doesn’t seem worth bothering with for a landscape shooter like me. I’d rather bracket and combine exposures in post. That also means ISO100 is still available.

For landscape shooters, updating the firmware to the most recent (1.3) version is a dashed good idea - you get a full-screen electronic level for tripod work accessed from the Info button, as well as SDXC card support.

I talked about the Highlight Correction function, it seemed to me effective, knocks out less light, gives more freedom. But this is my subjective opinion, your right to listen or not.

Went to the National Aviary in Pittsburgh over the weekend and while I haven't had a chance to go over all of the pictures, I did notice this one while I was offloading my SD card today. I thought it turned out rather nicely and figured I'd pop on over to here to include it in the K-7 thread as well.

Nice photo. I went to one of these aviaries one time, but there was nothing in it except birds. :>)

My dear chap, I’m not arguing the point. I didn’t know about the feature which you kindly drew my attention to and thank you for doing so! Whether it’s of use in future we’ll see, since I haven’t tried it yet. There are a number of features on the K-7 of little or no use to me (mostly JPG options) and others of great use. Your mileage may vary, but the K-7 still serves us both well.

Must go, I found a new composition on yesterday’s walk, a vertical pano shot to composite and dodge&burn. Cheers!

To be honest, I have many desires and few opportunities.I live in the city, around the dirt and gray.Besides, there's no time.I also shoot in Raw. K7 is not my main camera, practice is not enough. And yet I felt the difference with this function, the color seemed the same, without changes.I didn't fully study this mode.I will wait for your report). And bracketing will not be convenient and useful for everyone. Not everyone knows how to use this feature.Respectfully, you're a nice conversationalist.

I have fond memories of my K-7. When I was looking for my first digital SLR, I was considering Canon and Nikon mainly. However, once I held and tried a K-7 in the camera store, I was sold. I really enjoyed the camera, but traded it in later for a K-5.

Here are several of my K-7 pictures:

Hey great shots...but I have to ask...what's a guy from Ottawa doing in Winnipeg capturing the legendary North End of our fine city ?

Hah! Thanks for the compliment. Although I've never really lived in Winnipeg, I'm no stranger to the city. My parents lived in West K for 35 years, and my brother lives in the south end. I've visited many times through the years.

As for the photos, I must have passed by Billy Mosienko's bowling lanes a million times, and always thought the sign was neat.

Your welcome. Our son recently bought a house in EK (East Kildonan) and we have lived in the south end (south St. Vital) for years.

Winnipeg, as doubt your family has told you is a 'colourful' city, lots of history. When you think about it, a very good location...90 minutes to the Canadian Shield (Whiteshell), 2 hours to the Boreal Forest....north of Neepawa...Mountain Road, an hour or so from the states (North Dakota, Minnesota)...hot prairie summers, beautiful fall and springs and of course...winters.

As you probably know Billy Mosienko, a local Winterpeg boy, played with the Chicago Black Hawks and recorded the fastest hat trick in NHL history. In a 1952 game against the New York Rangers, Mosienko scored three goals in 21 seconds.

I was reading this thread and getting a bit sentimental because I am selling my K-7. Here are some of my favorite photos I took with it. Mostly with the Sigma 180mm f3.5 macro and the Pentax 645 FA 120mm f4 macro.
