True. According to DXOMARK (I know it's just numbers) K7 image quality is inferior to K20D quality. That's probably the cost for those video features because K20D was released one year before K7.
But I like K7 colours, more natural than those of its 16+ MPx successors.

I read somewhere that additional changes were made to the photomatrix to work better with lenses of the film era.

Two Youngsters on a Tall Chimney

@wirrah Amazing colours! I checked the EXIF info to confirm my suspicion about the flash usage but it definitely makes sense here.

Here's quite a challenging shot with K7 and Sigma 28-300mm F3.5-6.3 DL at the very tele-end - handheld! The K7 image stabilisation did a good job.
I wasn't lucky with the video which came out very shaky.

Thanks. You can just catch a glint from the flash in the bird's eye. This was also a fairly heavy crop of the original.

Was wandering through the archives as it were and thought I'd post a few more (above n below).

K-7 | M 50/1.4 (and preceding)
This last shot is one of a number that were lost to a HDD failure. Always wanted this one back, but all I have is a Picasa web-upload version, compressed for 2010 era upload/download speeds. Ah well.

Ivy Gate

Some greens in the foliage blown? So what? I don't mind. I like the overall tonality and colours K7 delivered.

If there is such a thread honoring and admiring the K-7, I've not seen it around. The K10D (which I loved the heck out of for a good long while) gets its CCD loving tribe, and the K5 variants and thereafter have their own subs..... But the flagship model that started the body style and design sensibilities seems to have become a bit of a redheaded stepchild.

If there is not an admiration thread for the K-7, I'll consider this a start. Truth is that I adored this camera when I first got it. In years prior I'd shot a couple of Fuji digicams, then the K100D Super and K10D... The K-7 was everything I wanted at the time, and I still consider a huge number of photos taken with it some of my best. My copy also traveled around the globe with me, complimented by only a single M 50/1.4 and I had a Rioch GRDIII along for the ride as well for its pocketable, travel-friendly, compact/wide-angle goodness. But the K-7 was abused. When I returned it was in rough shape. The stabilzation was in need of repair so I had it turned off entirely. I'd slammed the body into some rocks several times and the left strap lug came loose and broke off inside - so I simply sealed the hole with silcone hahaha. But all the while the dang thing just kept taking amazing photos. I'm actually a little sad I sold it and to-date, it was the camera I bonded with most as far as digital bodies go (film shooters are another story entirely)... The thing was a sleek, rather compact weather-sealed monster to me and I loved the hell out of it.

I mused over this tonight because I came across a series of shots that were intended for a composite that I took on Cuba Street in Wellington on late New Zealand autumn afternoon... and just this morning I re-discovered them realizing I'd never stitched them so I pulled them out of the archives and did so. It's 7 years later and turned out pretty nice. Fun to get a nice "new" shot from those 2010-2011 years... The K-7 was a companion through it all.

I still have a K7 to go along with my K3 and in daylight the performance is fantastic, I love to pair my K7 with a SMC 50mm f1.7 and use manual focus. As you have already mentioned, it has a great design and is a solid and reliable camera even today

Just rebought it, somewhat on a whim as I stumbled over this package for €90 in the local classifieds:

The Body has less than 22K actuations on it, was produced 22 July

After picking up a K10D last fall, with the back focus issues, the thought of the K-7 began to pester me. As did the realisation that I probably didnt give it much of a chance, when I bought it upon release in 09.

Fast forward to 2023, and that situation will be rectified, somewhat. At the very least, I will find out what I missed back then. Based on this very quick snap of a space marine, residing on a ledge in a window, it is probably quite a bit:

It was very off the cuff, shot with the 21mm Ltd I bought after I got the K10D. Also worth nothing that the figure in the picture are 4-5 times bigger than iRL.

It is, as it was back then, to big to be considered a day to day camera, but after having put it through some stuff today:

I dont think it will be going any places. The shot of the dog is with the 21 Ltd, the two others are with the FA50 f/1.4
