Good image viewer?

Hi guys,

Can anyone suggest fast image viewer for raw files (dng)? I need something to go trough 4-500 images, delete those which are blurry or out of focus and then to open the rest in Lightroom.

Thanks.

+1 faststone for image viewing plus a pretty versatile pp'ing/editing suite - good for me particularly because it reads the .srw RAW files from my samsung NX20, I have to convert before importing into Lightroom 3. However if you want cataloguing type functionalitythen the adobe software, or picasa?, might be better.

Irfanview. Opens files fast, free program, lots of abilities that don't get in the way if you don't want them to.

Irfanview, advantages like pres589 states.

And if your final result is to be stored as JPG:
Irfanview offers loss-free cropping (and rotating 90, 180, 270 deg.) of jpegs, including optional creation of an updated thumbnail, with or without update of EXIF.

There are still programs which "load" jpegs for displaying ("loading" jpegs means "interpreting" the compressed data), crop these loaded pictures, and make an another jpeg conversion before storing. This can lead to additional artefacts at contrasty borders.

The MacOS equivalent to Fast Stone is IMO GraphicConverter. It opens the JPEG preview in a RAW file very quickly and can save as just about any format you can think of.

It has basic editing tools and can apply effects and filters (Core Image). Other filters available as in-app purchases...

I use the free FastStone Image Viewer, Screen Capture, Photo Resizer ... which allows you to select and compare up to 4 images at a time. It loads the embedded jpg from raw shots so it is pretty fast. You can convert raw files if desired, and it has some other handy features.

And then there's FastPictureViewer, which is possibly the fastest, though the free version does not support DNGs, I believe. It supports custom monitor profiles, which the excellent Faststone Image Viewer does not. This is probably not very important during initial culling. It treats DNG/JPG pairs as a single item, thus reducing the number of images that one has to go through.
