I have an istD that has been sitting in my bag unused for years. Probably has less than 5,000 shutter releases. Pulled it out the other day to see if it would work. With new batteries, and formatting the card, i get weird photos. Like they are just a solid photo of weird colors. Is the card bad? Or is the camera bad? I hate to buy a new card if the camera is bad.
Is it the original *ist D? (not the DL or DS) They use a compact flash card, which can be difficult to find, although they are available on ebay. Try formatting the card in-camera if you haven't already. Good luck.

Yes, it's the original istD.

I tried formatting the card, but get the same results.

I'm guessing its a bad card - I had a similar problem when I first purchased my *ist D (second-hand). If you decide to replace it, make sure its 4 gb or less. I think 4 gb is supported by newest firmware.

Hi Paul, on the K100D if you take a picture without the card inserted the camera still shows an instant review if this is set. If instand review works the same way on the *istD, with the card out of the game, 87Duckfan at least could check if the camera internally works fine, because otherwise he should see a flawed picture then too I think.

Good idea - I'll give it a try & report back!

I can confirm this works with my *ist D. The camera will warn you that there's no card in the camera, but will display the shot on the rear LCD. Give it a try!

Merry Christmas everyone!

Cool, now only 87duckfan has to notice this in order to check the case.

Please see my reply to @Simon K above. Try taking the shot without the memory card & check if the image shows up on the LCD.
