An *ist DL2 body is now on the way to me for the princely sum of £49. I'd have been crazy not to get it at that price.

Excellent. If it's the one I saw on eBay, it looked very nice indeed. As you say, for that kind of money you can't go wrong

I think it might well be the one you saw on ebay -- from a Welsh camera shop? I've still got the split-prism that I used in my K100D around here somewhere, and I'm hoping that it'll fit the *ist too.

A man can only take so much. This thread is just too beautiful to resist anymore. Can I join in with this one with the K100D from 2012, in my first month after switching to digital from film?

Really beautiful, Dave.

The *ist DL2 arrived today, but sadly turns out to have the common problem of showing a dead battery icon even with a brand new set of AA lithiums. I tried it with alkalines and rechargeables too, just to make sure, but unfortunately it's a goner. So that's going to have to be returned.

Sad, really. I was looking forward to having a 6-megapickler again. . . the "Thwack-o-matic", as somebody here on PF once called it.

I wonder if a firmware update would fix it. Doing that solved the same problem with my K-x.

Man, sorry to hear that. I bought a used DL for my niece last year, and it was very finicky about batteries. I finally found a brand of AA rechargeables that worked with it (Rayovac I think). re: "thwackomatic"...I think that title belonged to the K100 series. Definitely applied to my K100D, which emitted a solid "kuh--lack" My D hardly makes a sound - just a light "snick" which is quite pleasant. Anyway, hope you can find a nice example soon!

Creepy crawlies for you all - frogs and slugs, with an *istDS, AF080C ringflash (hello, analogue TTL mode; how I love thee), and D-FA 100/2.8 WR macro.
