Taken in mid-February with the Super Tak 35/3.5 on *ist D:
Looks a bit like a Constable landscape that someone has painted an Aircraft into. Great rendering!

Soon be summer here and the Tamron SP 90 with K100DS will be out, possibly showing how much the sun contributes to an image.

I picked up a K100D from a forum member intending to give it to a friend's daughter. Turns out we got our wires crossed and she'd just ordered something newer. I took it out a few hours ago to see how it handled the late afternoon sun. It struggled in some unsurprising lighting situations (e.g. light green plant sunlit against shaded mulch) but overall it exceeded my admittedly low expectations. In particular, I didn't feel like my ability to crop was hindered by having only 6mp available.

Honorable mention to the Tamron Adaptall 44A (28-70mm) which continues to absolutely be worth the $20 I spent on it.

This is one of the features I enjoy using my older digital cameras, especially when fitted with a manual prime lens ... having to think about composition and positioning myself accordingly. This is so much more like "old-fashioned" photography.

I agree completely. Shooting with a 6 megapickler is the closest you can get to the digital equivalent of shooting slide film. You have to get the framing right when you release the shutter because croppability is limited. And you have to think carefully about how to expose to fit the tones of the scene within the sensor's limited dynamic range. I love it!

I started out my DSLR journey with the *ist D, and always tried my best to "fill the frame" while composing to make use of the limited resolution. Even now with my newer, larger megapicklers I tend to resist cropping (but will make exceptions if it helps to salvage a shot).

Thanks Dave, I'd been camped out in the bracken ditch alone side the rally stage for a few hours, so was very pleased to get plenty of 'keepers', and this was one of the shots that just stood out amongst the others when I got them up on the computer. As you mention, shooting with 6MP can be all you need if you can nail the framing and avoid the need to crop too much.

The DL2 was my first digital Pentax. I upgraded to K20D (when the K7 was released) after which it slowly got relegated to the sort of duties where I was less concerned about it's welfare, but it took it all in its stride

Those are awesome shots, Simon. Motoring magazine quality... and from a *ist DL2 and kit lens. Wow.

There are some folks around here in the "must have latest equipment" camp who should look at these and think very carefully before buying the next latest-and-greatest camera

Wow! Really absolutely superb photographs. As Mike (BigMackCam) says, those are magazine quality. Perfect proof that the only sensor that really matters in a digital camera is the Mark 1 Eyeball.
