A couple random shots from 2011 and 2012. First one - Vivitar 135/2.8, and the creek shot with the DA18-55. Both taken with an *ist D:

I could happily sit and look at that second one all day, Paul. Just a perfect impression of a moment of light and time.

Well thank you Dave - glad you liked it! As I remember it, it was a lovely Spring evening down at the creek. Here's another view, a bit wider this time:

Another one rescued from the back catalogue:

I find there's quite a few pictures that have grown on me when I look back through the collection.

Nice composition. I like how that thin band of sunlight reflecting off of the water clearly delineates the horizon line...almost like that ship is about to fall off the edge of the earth.

Thanks Rob. I reworked the original .pef using one of the more recent RawTherapee profiles, which cleaned things up a bit. The colors are unchanged and the sunset sky actually looked like that.

That's the great thing about having all of one's old photos backed-up in RAW format. One has the option of re-visiting them years later when the RAW processing software improves and/or one's skills in PP improve.

For me, that's the crucial thing. It's a beautiful photo, and when I look at it I can feel that I'm seeing something close to what the real experience must have been. I'm most definitely NOT one of the no-editing-should-ever-be-allowed brigade, but I do like photos to be believable at least.

I'm in the same boat. I'm not a fan of fantastic fairy images, but usually editing is necessary to get the photo closer to the look and feel of the actual experience, which in my opinion, is the goal of photography as art. I have no grievance against digital art work as I used to do plenty of it, but at some point an image goes from being a photo to painting.
