I like it - the old kit lens worked well here! I still have and use my v.1 18-55 now & then!

It's a characteristic of the very small aperture that even the slightest speck on the sensor is brought into sharp relief. If you've got a "conventional" lens with a small minimum aperture (ideally f/22 or less) you should be able to replicate the symptoms to a degree if you take a picture of a plain sky or such at minimum aperture.

I use my FAJ 28-80mm (from my *ist film camera) at it's f/38 minimum aperture to help check
Thank you for this, I actually had no idea how photography works, or well how the lenses bend light in and such and how the aperture affects it. My 18-55 kit goes down to 38 as well, I also have 80-200 that goes to 22. I noticed all these spots show up again when shooting at those settings.

Now, to find a much better method of cleaning this image sensor if it can be cleaned at all.

Thanks, Paul! To be honest, I thought I'd sold the old kit lens ages ago, but it turns out I haven't. I've dug it out again: your enthusiasm is infectious, 'cause I intend to use it again every now and then - preferably on the K100DS of course. It's high time spring arrived!

This was (or: is) a golden combo as far as I'm concerned: DA 16-45 + K100DS, here at 16mm@f/8

K100DS with DA18-55 (first version) @f/5.6
Desolate? With all that green grass and unfrozen water and bright blue sky???

That's not desolate.

Oh well, it looked pretty desolate in my book. The definition of desolate probably varies depending on where you live. Anyway, most of the grass was dry/dead and brown. And yes, the sky was blue and the water wasn't frozen: it was quite a nice day. But it's nowhere near as nice as in spring/summer.

Just discovered this group and wished I'd known about it sooner. I still shoot with my ist DS even though I use my new K3II for more demanding shots. Its been a good camera and maybe you'll all get a kick out of some of these shots. Thank you for creating a 6MP group!

I love the deep red in this shot. I'm sure I'm just projecting my love for the old cameras but I swear they capture the colors and tones differently than the newer models do. Nice shot!
