I made the same discovery! Congrats - were the *ist D and grip listed here on the PF Marketplace? I was looking at that ad for a long time, asking myself if I needed a 3rd *ist D . It's a quirky camera but I love it. I've gotten pretty adept at getting the CF card out fairly easily using a thumbnail. I've not noticed any banding, though. What RAW editor are you using? I mostly rely on Rawtherapee with digiKam and Gimp (running Linux Mint). Enjoy your new toy!

No, bought it from Finnish second hand camera store. Big downside for me at PF market is that the shipping usually gets quite high.

I´m using Darktable and Gimp on Ubuntu, usually no problem since nowadays Gimp is working 16-bit. My normal workflow is DNG in DT, export as 16-bit TIFF and make final tweaks and JPEG with Gimp. Banding issues came when TIF was loaded to DT and exported as 8-bit JPEG to be tweaked in Gimp, especially when lifting the shadows when dynamic range of camera is not too good.

I´ve been checking this thread from time to time and been tempted to get a 6mpix camera for a while. And last week found a deal for the Original One, *ist D with battery grip, for 35€, less than 40$!

Initial impressions were that the camera has been sitting in storage for a while or years; it smells. No fungus anyway. Minor signs of wear on buttons shows that has been in a good use some point in it´s life. No idea of shuttercount, tried couple sites but they could´t tell how much it has on the meter. Apparently no DNG, but PEF works with Darktable and it has TIFF format in camera!
Age is really showing, the post stamp display is hard to look and speed is not it´s strength. Also the CF-card, while big enough for a chimp to handle requires a multitool to get it out. It really makes my K200d look like a modern camera.

Still, quite pleasant to use, grip is good and basics are easy to reach. Sound of the shutter has been taken from some good old scifi flick, soooo pleasing!
So, everything seems to work and this thing definetily isn´t going to retire! Now i just have to wait for the spring to actually start

Some of you may have noticed I keep banging on about how good the old CCD sensors are for infra-red photography ... well here's a shot I took this afternoon with my *ist DL2 with a Lee 87 filter fitted on the lens. The camera is unmodified and the only real concession I made was to take a manual white balance reading off the grass. Exposure was 1sec @f/8, 200ASA. The only "post" processing was to grey-scale the image and apply an overall "auto-levels" to boost the contrast slightly

You´re not wrong, i have a full range modified *ist DL and it´s great! Nice shot, also!

The 55 is such a nice lens - I have the K55 and SMC Tak 55 and they always deliver the goods. Nice shooitng.
