I've realised the Samsung GX-1S does offer stop down metering with a Pentax-M series lens. You just have to enable two things in the Custom Setting menu -

1. "Using aperture ring" - Enable shutter release when lens aperture is set at other than A. (Why would you not want this on the whole time?)

2. "FI with S lens used" - Enable focus indicator when screw mount lens in use. Lens is recognised even when no lens on camera. (This also provides the visual focus confirm indicator even with manual focus lenses, which I thought only worked with A series and newer on the GX-1S. It seems really accurate too.)

You also have to go into "AE-L button on M exposure" in the Custom menu and set it to Tv Shift.

These all enabled, the AE-L (ie exposure lock) button enables stop down metering when an M lens is set to an aperture other than wide open, like the "green button" on my K10D. You can still tweak the shutter speed up or down with the dial. Even better, whilst I find the green button's position and ergonomics a bit awkward on the K10D, the AE-L button on the GX-1S is much easier to locate and have your thumb on ready, so as a result the GX-1S is easier to use with M (and K) lenses than my K10D. I'm unlikely to get any more K or M lenses as I'm focusing on M42 now (90% Takumar) but at least I can use the ones I still have more easily now.

In the meantime I tried out my Flektogon 35/2.4 for the first time on the GX-1S today. Yeh I know it's not a Pentax lens, but it's pretty impressive, and focuses less than 0.2m...

I still have my K100D. Just got it back from my son a couple of months ago when he got a K30.

Time to put it to good use . My wife has my K100D now, after dropping her K7 in the ocean.
An older shot with the K100D and A35/2.8:

"Sandwiched awkwardly between the CCD sensors of the past - prized for their colour rendition - and the outstanding dynamic range of the K5/30/50-series sensor, still prized in the land of the superior megapixel K-3 and K-1, the K-7 struggled to achieve relevance and eventually resorted to deleting itself from history in new and inventive ways..."

I tend to mainly use the k100D as a just in case camera these days when taking photos isn't my main aim for a trip.

And sometimes you really want a camera handy:

Thanks for looking,

Love that shot of the woman on the rocks especially - at first it looks like an abstract landscape, then you spot her. And I love how the whole palette of the picture is just brown and green, including the woman.

Another couple of shots from my Samsung GX-1S -

Samsung GX-1S with Asahi Auto-Takumar 55mm f/2 M42 lens - love how these sensors render greens, especially with a Takumar...

Samsung GX-1S with Asahi Takumar 105mm f/2.8 M42 lens. Actually, they're pretty impressive in their natural rendering of all colours, vibrant, yet somehow gentle at the same time...

Thanks for looking!

What's your post look like on the color photos? They look good. Almost a Kodak Portra feel.

I bought my daughter an *ist DL for her seventh birthday to start learning photography with a real camera.

Thanks for your kind words, jtkratzer and Dan James. Even if the CCD sensor is known for their own nice color rendition (and I agree with that), I must say that these pictures are also the result of RAW files manipulation in LR4. I very much like the color profiles given by the VSCO software pack, which mostly tries to emulate colour and b/w film classics. Sometimes it really works. Sometimes it doesn't. I usually like to use them, particularly the Ektar, Portra and Susperia profiles. However, I try to reduce the impact of this tweeking on the picture as I feel that the analog/chemical digital recreation, funny enough, seems too digital for me.

By the way, the woman picture was an amazing piece of lucky situation. Completely candid. Unfortunately I just had a 35mm with me. And yes, I can confirm that she looked really stunning.

Oh yes, I remember! How's that working out, and when will we start seeing her efforts here?

I did that for my teenage niece when she got her DL last year. The infatuation lasted a couple months. After that it was phone snaps on Facebook and Instagram.
