I do seem to take photographs of some slightly odd things wth the k100D, in this case the light cluster of a road roller I passed while walking into town.

It's a great sensor for B&W. I've been thinking about removing the Bayer filter from my DL2 and turning it into a pure B&W camera, but I think it's a bigger job than I really want to take on at the moment. I've got visions of ending up with a disassembled camera that I never quite manage to reassemble properly. So, for now, here's a B&W version of one with the Zenitar 16mm that was previously posted in the Soviet Lens thread in colour.

Yes ... these older sensors do still work well for b&w!

Here's a shot with a similar theme I took last autumn using a Tamron 28mm Adaptall-II lens on my *ist DS

Unless you have seen your 6 megapixel pictures at full resolution on a 4K screen you really haven't seen how good 6 MP really looks. The detail is rather surprising when you try that. I was knocked out when I displayed them on a 55" 4K.

Even at a 20' x 30' inch print ( interpolated up to 300 dpi ) - 6MP pictures have detail that I need a magnifying glass to see. The old cameras also produce lovely colors.

So true. I've printed quite a few 6 megapickler shots at 12"x18" (300 dpi) and you're right: they really do stand up to inspection with a magnifying glass. On a 55" 4K screen the colour rendering from that old 6MP CCD must be mindblowing.

But where I live these days a 55" screen would be considered a full-blown movie theatre.

One of the restored older homes in the historical district of town. A lot of these have been converted into B&Bs. A35/2.8 on K100D:

Uh... don't.
Sensors are preserved under a glass cover in an inert gas atmosphere.
I've read about it, and the whole thing (opening it, doing the thing, then puffing some gas back in, closing and sealing everything with epoxy) doesn't look easy at all, and will surely shorten the life of the sensor (if it works again at all after the operation).

I got my K100D Super out, have not used it for nearly 8 months. These images are one of the last ones taken (with a Picasa "I feel lucky" edit) in July 2017 with a Tamron SP 90mm F2.5 and one taken today with the DA L 55-300mm. Back in 2008 I read that 6mp was enough, more is not noticeably better. Whoever wrote that may have been using this 6mp sensor.

The colour rendering in that first one in particular is just beautiful.

I thought I'd post a test shot from yesterday with an old Centon 28-70mm zoom that I picked up in a charity shop for a pittance a few days ago. First impressions are that this thing renders clouds better than anything else I think I've ever used. Definitely one of those cheap old manual zooms that I'm going to be doing some more shooting with, and in particular one that I'm looking forward to using when the new Ektachrome finally comes out.

Another taken with the K100D Super and the DA L 55-300mm, showing some front "bokeh" and again the colours this sensor provides SOOC.
I have had the camera since new, 10 years and the shutter count as of today is 2245. A record? The transition from film still has me being a bit parsimonious with my shots though since I got my K-5 I have become less so.
Now if SRS microsystems would accept this in their current trade in deal for the K-1 mk2 I would think about letting it go.

Surprising how well some of these old manual lenses can provide images.
I have a "Profile" branded 35-70mm F3.5-4.5 macro that performs well. I have never heard of Profile before so am assuming it was something cheap and cheerful like Centons.
