Here's a heavily-cropped shot from today on my K100D with SMC Pentax-F 80-200mm f/4.7-5.6 at full extension, f/8, 1/400s, ISO 200. This combination is such a delight to use, fast focusing and sharp. I just can't get over the quality of images coming out of this little 6mp camera. The histogram on ths one was so good that it just took a touch of post processing, stretching out the range a bit, a little unsharp mask. Are all the Pentaxes this good? I know my old Spotmatic and Takumars were.

Very nice! I, too have the old F80-200 zoom and believe it's highly underrated. Lightweight, quick and sharp, but you do need a bit of light.

You with the 6 mp cameras make me question why I should trade my K-5 for a K-3, KP, or K-1. You have posted some great photos.

For me, the only real reason for "updating" my body was to be able to crop the results more heavily and still end up with a detailed picture ... there's just so much more enlargement available on a 16 or 24 megapixel image. Also, the TAV-mode is proving very useful and the higher ISO capabilities and lower noise in poor light is very welcome.

However, on a nice sunny day, for subjects that I can "fill the viewfinder with" and aren't about to disappear to the next parish as soon as I point my camera at them, the slightly more relaxed approach I can manage can be served perfectly adequately with my old *istD cameras. I also get a great deal of satisfaction knowing my investment in these units is still paying off

Taken yesterday with my *istD L2 and a Fujinon 35mm f/1.9. From the camera, just cropped at one end and resized for posting.

Just another hawk (I'm no expert, but I think it is a juvenile Red-Tailed Hawk) like a thousand other on the internet, but I wanted to post it just to show what this vintage camera/lens combination is capable of. K100D with SMC Pentax-F 80-200mm f/4.7-5.6 at full extension, f/5.6, 1/1000s, ISO 200. Heavily cropped. At the low ISO, even with the cropping and unsharp mask the noise is not too noticeable. Plenty good enough for viewing on a computer screen.

I got a yard sale Quantaray 28-90 1:3.5-5.6 Macro in a cardboard box with two Pentax lenses and other camera stuff for $45. Every one of the lenses has turned out good, no surprise about the Pentaxes but I hadn't really expected much from the Quantaray. Turns out it's a good piece of glass. The images look just fine and the 28-90 range with macro at 90 makes it a great walking around lens. Here's a shot of a leaf in macro mode, on a K100D body. It's sharp enough for the web, and I can't complain about the bokeh, either.

That was my first "kit lens" that came with my *ist D, purchased used. It's a good lens for sure - great as a walkaround, and the macro is impressive for what it is.
