I wear glasses and take them off to use the camera. I can't use glasses with it, I can't see well in there and don't like my glasses pressing on my nose. I use a diopter and it works well. Just the hassle of taking off glasses when using the viewfinder

I have some astigmatism, so the viewfinder's diopter adjustment can't help with that. The magnification correction I need isn't very strong.

The ground here is usually either exposed granite bedrock, granite with only and inch or two of soil on it. . . or peat marsh. So the ponies hooves usually wear down naturally, although you'll occasionally see one that could maybe do with a bit of a trim. I'm so used to seeing unshod ponies around that it seems quite unnatural to see somebody riding a shod horse. And the ponies certainly seem to find the idea a bit absurd.



Thanks Dan. The sensor cleaning could have been me. I just use a cotton bud (Q-tips preferably) very lightly moistened with lens cleaning fluid. The same stuff in a spray bottle from Boots that I use on my reading glasses and camera lenses when needed. Just a gentle wipe with a barely moist bud, then another wipe with a dry one. And obviously a blast with a blower first and afterwards.

Purist gear collectors will gasp in horror at such a method, but the glass on the sensor is plenty scratch resistant enough. You'd think sensor cleaning was brain surgery, the way some folk fret about it.

Thanks! I bought the K-m I was talking about and it turns out a few blows with a blow and then turning on the anti dust shake at start up (which wasn't activated by the previous owner) has cleared any major dust. Perhaps under certain conditions of bright background and either extreme of focus there might be some, but I've not noticed anything to concern me, so I don't need to get the cotton buds out yet!

Sensor cleaning:

I tried one of those wands with a sticky end, which you cleaned by pressing it on little papers which came with it. The first time I used it, it seemed very easy to use and did a good job cleaning the sensor. The second time, I had trouble using the little papers to get the sticky end of the wand clean between pressing it on areas of the sensor. Also, I might have used a heavier touch. I was afraid I might have scratched or cracked the sensor on my K110D and didn't use it for some time. When I next needed to clean the sensor on my K10D, I ordered a wet clean kit. Think of Dartmoor Dave's cottonbud technique but with flat buds almost sensor wide on long thin plastic handles and with a "special" cleaning solution. You lightly dampen one with the solution, wipe the sensor area lightly but completely, and then use a dry one. Worked great on the K10D. Later, I worked up the courage to try it on my K110D's sensor, and what do you know, it cleaned up fine and shows no sign of having been damaged before as I had worried.

One other thing: when my K10D does the sensor dust-shake-off shimmy on start up, I make sure it is pointed downward so that any dust that might fall off of the sensor goes in the direction toward out of the camera body.

I’m assuming you mean you do this with the lens off so any dust falls out completely?

No, I mean every time. It is a lot easier to blow dust of the lens than off of a sensor once it gets stuck there.
