Have any of you DA*16-50 owners been on dpReview lately (check thread "No more DA*16-50 for a while"?
Well, I discovered that this lens is starting to have a reputation: decentered images, eratic AF, no infinity focus... and many more, and this seems to be more of my problem. The matter of dirty contacts is one way to solve the problem for any lens but those other problems seem to be a DA*16-50 issue.
I'll have the whole body/lens checked ASAP at the local Pentax shop in Halifax.

I tried the contact cleaning and for most of the week, it seemed to do the trick. However, yesterday, once the camera got hot - we all were actually with an ambient temperature of some 34 degrees celsius plus humidity - the AF cut out all operation *again* as it did before. Ugh.

I use alcohol on a microfiber cloth to clean my contacts, and dry carefully after with a dry section of the microfiber cloth.
Thanks for the info. I'll use the tip.
