Horrible lens, useless crap! The only 18-200/250 that ever delivered is the 18-200 VR from Nikon. All other Tamron/Sigma/Other creations in this extreme zoom range just plain suck. Get the Pentax 17-70mm, very sharp for a zoom. And yes, I tested all 18-200/250 lenses. -B
From SLR Gear, Tamron 18-250 vs Nikon 18-200VR: "The net result is a lens selling for street prices ranging from $800 to $1,100, as compared to the roughly $430 - $499 range of the Tamron. While the Nikkor optic wins on build quality and VR capability though, the Tamron very much holds its own optically.... All in all then, the contest between these two lenses is nearly a tie optically." Tamron Lens: Zooms - Tamron 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II LD Aspherical IF Macro AF (Tested) - SLRgear.com!

No need to worry about VR with the Pentax system. So, who to believe, some random guy's inflammatory first post, or SLR gear. LOL!

Your post count and this "helpful" comment suggests a troll. Run along now. Again, for those interested in facts, the 18-250 is an excellent lens. As I mentioned, I have run tests in comparison with the excellent DA*50-135, that costs about twice as much. Here is a picture from each lens at 100mm. Note that these are both 100% crop. Any less crop, and you can't even tell the difference. I find myself using the 18-250 more and more because it is just so versatile.

Which one is the DA*?

Hmmm... I'm thinking the one on the right was from the DA* lens? I see more detail in the tractor wheels of the truck in that picture than I see in the picture to the left of it.

I did look it up online (i.e. Amazon, etc) and from what I gathered, it was a good lens. However, I read the review in the link you gave me and it tells another story. Very interesting.

I appreciate your response and link. It looks like I would have been better off going with my original thoughts, a 16-45 lens and simple hold off on a zoom . .

Peter
I've got a K10D and for lenses I primarily use my 16-45 Pentax and 55-300 Pentax. I use the 55-300 for wildlife shots...American White pelicans in flight a favourite. I use the 16-45 for people and hot rod show pix.

I'm very happy with all the equipment.
