I set my K-50 on my tripod but failed to fully deploy the legs... before I knew it the whole thing tipped over. The back of the camera hit a flower pot and the viewfinder shattered (I should consider myself lucky that the LCD survived without a scratch)

Try to get a quote for replacing it.

I'm sorry your camera was damaged, but thanks very much for your post. It will prompt me -- and I assume others -- to check deployment of tripod legs.

Sorry to hear that. I've been saved a few times by the rule of only ever setting up with my camera while still attached to me via my neck strap. Tend then to only take of the strap on the rare occasions. A pain, yes, but it's saved me a few large bills.

I'm one lucky Pentaxian, only the protective glass broke. I removed the shattered pieces with precision tweezers and everything is 98% fine. I'm not mad, it's a lesson that I will remember

The wicked tripod demon has its way with yet another innocent camera.

I have had close calls with both unsecured legs (camera went sliding past in my peripheral vision and managed to catch it as it went by) and loose QR plates (found out as I went to remove camera), but only one full-on fail. Some twist-type legs are finicky about the extend/twist sequence. I got out of sequence with when using my Giottos MT 9360 with 4x5 view camera mounted and came just short of having both camera and tripod pitch off a footbridge into a ravine. A railing stopped both with damage limited to a bit of dented teak (rear standard on camera) and a scratch on the tripod.

Now add the Pentax (can't recall the code)magnifying viewfinder, perhaps ?

Weather sealing may be compromised.

I don't know if the K-30 parts will fit but you can give it a try.

This is the same guy that does the aperture repair on the K-30/50.

Maybe if rainy shoots are important the extra protection of the O-ME53 may help with line of silicon/acrylic sealer to seal it. A bit of a bodge, perhaps, but it's not going to get into the internals, and could be easily (enough) picked off. I'd be tempted as I shoot in the rain a lot ...

There is also the rain cover option.

I watched a video on youtube, it doesn't seem overly complicated to replace and the part is way less expensive than what I anticipated.

Could be worse. A friend had this happen with his Canon and a 300mm 2.8 attached. Damaged the lens and ripped the front off the camera. Glad it looks easy to deal with.
