I appreciate the fact that Chris & Jordan don't necessarily want Pentax to mimic another brand, unlike a number of Pentax critics here on PF who want them to become a clone of Brand X.

Pentax really needs figure out how to maintain momentum after they introduce a great new product like the K-1. That camera generated buzz from users of other brands.

A great new APS-C flagship, breakthrough Ricoh GR II successor, four new high-end lenses, a new PLM lens, and a juicy rumor or two would make for an excellent 2018 for Ricoh/Pentax.

Welllll... I was sort of thinking they would operate as separate entities, just share resources.

Penssan or Acuratax might be ok.

The problem with this is that we've already seen a number of people dismiss new Pentax glass as "Tamron rebadges", even when that isn't remotely true.

The Pentax people working at Ricoh locations around the USA could make an outgoing phone call. That would help.

Its not hard, just release the DFA primes in 2018!(all 6 of them!)

Perhaps Ricoh removed the "9" button from the phones in the USA locations.

Need some lower-tier stuff and a more unique product (GR series) too.

Well the DA 11-18 is coming, not a great deal needed for apsC,....dfa WR/AW primes are needed.
New Q with the rumoured macro(I don't hold much hope for this though).
Next top end K-3 mk 3 body, faster than the Nikon and shoots 8K video(when hell freezes over!)

Yes, i think the 18-400mm would be good in K mount. Its received many favourable reviews.Tamron make it for 95% of the dslr market,Y not grab 100%!
I suspect a Pentax-branded DA 18-400mm lens mysteriously appearing in the future.

A PLM kit zoom would be excellent for Pentax. Maybe replace the 35/2.4 and 50/1.8 with PLM versions.

I still have my Auto 110-to-Q adapter and lenses, even though I sold off my Q a couple years ago. A new Q could be fun, but like you I have little hope for this.

I would like to have the Tamron 100-400. Dustin Abbott has a positive review on it.

My predictions would be DFA *50, 85, and a consumer 70-300 variable aperture full frame zoom. On the body side of things, a camera above the 645z (dropping the price of the 645z) and a K3 III. Hard to see much else.

Clearly the 11-18 is already announced. There could be another lower level full frame lens or two, but I don't think they can release more than a couple of the high end DFA * lenses per year.

One thing is sure, 2018 can't be worst than 2017 unless leaving the camera market. With a grand total of zero new lenses and one neither fish nor fowl APS-C camera, 2017 probably was an all time low.

I agree with the TCS guys that Pentax missed a lot of opportunities. Pentax have great ideas, put doesn't seem to care about pushing or building around them.

Don't worry folks. I just made a new product request on the Ricoh Imaging website via the customer contact webpage. I believe that they will see the wisdom in my request and deliver a D-FA 26mm f2.4 "with imagine rendering like the F 28mm" in a few years time. Sit tight!

I think part of that, insofar as it might be true, lies with a rather disparate user base - they're going to have to abandon a whole tranche of users whichever way they go because otherwise they end up with an incoherent mix of small and light with bulky and highly corrected and premium and cheap. RIcoh seems to be headed up market, but they're going to lose quite a few older users in the process it seems. The question really is whether they can afford to have a coherent range - and whether they can afford not to.
