Yikes. Absolutely HAMMERED RICOH for lack of attention to the Brand.

I'm curious where they hit their sales number data. My impressions are that the brand was growing sales again but they seem in the opposite camp.

Their statements most probably relate to the sales in "their" store...just a guess but thats the impression i took from their comments.

I got my first email sales add today from Ricoh, 6 days before Christmas, a little late to the holiday sales advertising. Canon it seems has been sending out sale advertising emails every three days since before Thanksgiving.

Yes I think their comments are sober and honest.

But I don't think a K1000 is going to fix them or any other niche camera.

The impression I get is Pentax doesn't seem to know which way to go.. and if I'm a new customer looking at FF systems, I'm not sure I'm going to invest thousands of dollars in a system that is run by people who don't seem, to me, to be all-in to the system they offer.

It seems like they are handling it like a side project.

For the Pentax brand to survive in the long run, Ricoh needs to do what Sony & Panasonic are doing: partner up with another company (i.e. Samsung, Tokina) to have that extra money (for r&d) & manpower to make and release better/improved camera's/lenses in the area's that are lacking that will on-par with the bigger company's (CaNikony)

Would be great if they teamed up with Tamron, seems they have tied with them anyway, and their newest glass has been great. Together they can do great things)

Yes, i think the 18-400mm would be good in K mount. Its received many favourable reviews.Tamron make it for 95% of the dslr market,Y not grab 100%!

Also, their 85 1.8 would be such a good addition to our line up I believe, it's rated very highly. And the 24-70 g2 seems like a good update of the one licensed to Pentax.

How about a different type of partnership.. say one with an auto manufacturer. The auto manufacturer gets a lot of camera knowledge and the camera manufacturer gets a lot of (hopefully) funding.

No I don't see it happening.. but a different take than the Sony/Tamron/Sigma proposition.
