New K10D, bad spot on sensor??

Hey guys,

Just got a K10D tonight and on my first dozen captures (PEF RAW) I notice a bright pixel in the exact same spot (1502x, 1201y). Actually it looks kinda like a tiny + sign. Now this is my first DSLR, and first post too BTW, but is a normal thing??

Thanks!

Welcome, and congrats on your new camera! What you have is a hot pixel, and yes that is somewhat common. If you shoot raw and use Adobe Camera Raw, they will automagically be cloned out. Other raw software will do it as well, but I don't think Pentax's software does.

Ok then, I knew it was common on LCDs but didnt know if it was considered "acceptable". If its the best I can hope for, then its fine. I was just wondering if it was too normal to be able to request warranty replacement/repair.

Sounds like you have a hot pixel. Shoot a shot in absolute dark to see if you get consistant white spot(s). If so they can be mapped out by Pentax, from what I understand, or if they are too much then you should consider getting a replacement unit.

You might also want to try the sensor cleaning. I had a spot appear on my *istD at one point, only to have it go away by setting the sensor cleaning function on.

Looked just the same as you describe.

Don't write off the camera yet.
