Seriously, if I had to get 5 days of clothes, toiletries, etc. all in a carry-on, I would just take my phone as my camera. My next trip to Kenya will not involve a safari, and I will be packing a lot of medical gear, so I’ll just have my phone. Mind you, I've captured some pretty great images with my phone...but not as great as my K-1.

One more thing, please do NOT tell us if you plan on takiing less than 5 sets of underwear....TMI.

If I didn't need to worry about WR I might go for a prime trio or even duo. DA 40 Limited is great and can be found cheap used. I often carry the 15/40/77 trio and love the results. Good urban approach and compact. Before the 77 I had the DA 70 which is smaller and still really nice. The 15/40 duo is pretty good too, depending.

My KP with DA15, DA21, DA35 and HD55-300 fits in a bag small enough that airlines consider it a handbag rather than carry-on luggage.

With your kit, I'd take the K-30, 10-17, 18-55 and maybe the M135/3.5

1 lens - da 18-135mm every time.

2 lens - da 20-40mm limited + dfa 100mm

If I had a da 15mm it would be added to both the kits above!

For your kit, I echo sandy’s recommendation of 10-17mm, 18-55 and 135mm

Fascinating :0) I photograph towns, buildings, churches, castles etc a lot as we have a great deal of history locally and I love 24mm and 35mm. I was worrying about my lack of zoom but you have opened my eyes to what I REALLY want. I am going to look at the prices of 18-135s and maybe replace the 18-55 & the 50-200 with it. That on its own or with my 35, which is small enough, would be everything I need :0). Brilliant thread :0) I am going to go back and read it all again :0) thank you all so much :0)

K5 plus DA15 and DA18-135

if I‘d have a KP and DA20-40 Ltd it would be

KP • DA15 • DA20-40 • DA55-300PLM

I am looking at selling my Fuji hs20exr, my 18-55 & my 50-200 to fund an 18-135. I am also aiming to pick up a 10-17. So, if that happens it will be 10-17 &18-135, if I don’t get the 10-17 I will take either the SMC DA 35 or the manual 24mm for some old school manual photography :0)

My lens buying has been a bit scatty. This thread has helped me to see what I need (initially, 10-17, 18-135 & primes) thanks to you guys I should end up with 1 less camera & initially 1 less lens but a far better set up.

PS, I will be packing plenty of underwear

With your current options, I'd go with the K30, the 18-55mm and the 35mm prime. I prefer to shoot normal to wide.
+1
The only time that you'll use the DA50-200 would be to shoot architectural details or sneaky street shots of tourists or locals. Definitely take the 35mm prime, you'll find this handy when going out in the evenings to badly lit bars and restaurants - a bit wider like the DA21 would be nicer, but you don't have one. As for the fish-eye - if you do get one, try to resist the temptation to shoot everything at 10mm

When I travel very light with only cabin luggage, usually I take the K-1 with charger, the DFA 24-70mm and a Manfrotto BeFree compact lightweight tripod. If I know there are chances for street photography or portraits, sometimes I may add the FA 77. If I'm gonna travel in harsh climate sometimes I add a cleaning kit. This is actually quite tricky as several times the air blower of the cleaning kit caused panic at the security check at the airport, kinda looks like a hand grenade. Be cautious!

I don't sniff away from carrying heavy stuff with me - I would also take the DFA 70-200 but I don't own it. I would also take a heavier tripod but I'm not sure I can make it through security check at the airport.

You're going to love the 18-135. That was my travel/walk around on the Kx, then K5, then K3 until I got the K1. Now the K3 does its main duty for astrophotography and when reach (DA 1.4x tc + DFA 150-450) is needed.

For outdoor adventures my travel kit is the K-3 with 16-85. If space permits I might add the 55-300 PLM. For urban settings it’s the limited series (DA 15,21,40,70). Sadly my K-1 usually stays home on such trips.

OK, question first. I will post the background/preamble after for anyone who wants to read it

You are going to Seville. You only have carry on luggage, I.e. 1 bag. You have to pack clothes for 5 days (those are the rules) so have very little room for camera equipment! what do you take? Edit: What would you take based on what kit YOU own? My collection is limited, I am dying to see what serious Pentaxians would put in their bags
Definitely:
  1. Pentax MX
  2. Pentax-M 40m F2.8 or Auto Chinon 45mm F2.8 pancake
  3. Pentax-M 28mm F3.5

Either:
  1. Pentax-M 100mm F2.8 or Pentax-M 135mm F3.5, or
  2. More rolls of film

I pretty much packed the above for 10 days in northern Europe last summer. Mostly daytime shooting so didn't need a fast 50 or real tripod.
