It doesn't eliminate the motion, it compensates for the motion.

Canon is up against the full page ad Sony puts in magazines like Newsweek promoting stabilization IN the their cameras. They even show Nikon and Canon crossed out. Oddly, they don't mention Pentax has stablization similar to Sony.

I like in-the-camera stabilization because we already had a dozen lens before I bought my first and only DSLR.

Same here. The one true advantage (only if it fit your shooting style) is in panning with slow shutter speeds which is better with VR as you can stabilize one axis (vertical) but not affect the horizontal pan.
