Hi,

I have a K10D that doesn't make the whirring sound when I use SR. I've done some simple tests to show that SR appears to do improve my images when taking a longer exposure than I should be able to with the inverse focal length rule of thumb.

My friend just got a K100D Super, and it makes a clearly audible whirring noise when it takes photos.

Now I'm starting to think that my camera should make more noise too. I'm worried that my SR isn't working as well as his, or that it is all in my head and it doesn't actually improve things.

Has anyone else noticed that some cameras make less noise than others? Should I be worried? Is there a definitive test?

I remember my k100d, once or twice went MAD with the SR, i almost dropped it.
Other times it was seriously quiet...
But I dont think its something you should hear per se... mmm

occasionally my k20d miscalculates and buzzes during the exposure. This is the camera's way of saying you caught it by surprise and shouldnt take photos that quickly. It has only happened twice, but it makes nice blurry photos. Other than that the camera makes no noise until i trick it into thinking it has an 800mm lens attached. Which is lots of fun.

My k100d has never made a SR sound. AF sound yes, SR sound no. Friends k100 same thing...

The SR on my K10D is silent as near as I can tell.

I've never heard my K10D make a sound that could be attributed to the SR.

I cannot hear if mine whirs or not.

I have had loud ringing in my ears for 10-12 years now, and sounds like those are impossible for me to hear.

Noise means there is vibration, so no noise is a good thing. However, set a looong exposure time and put on a long lens, shake the camera and you most likely will hear the SR working.

In liveview, it's very noticeable, move the camera a bit and you hear all the compensation. Now turn off SR and liveview becomes completely silent.
