Sounds like you got your wish, at least if you have a K1, or KP with Pentax releasing SDK's for them. Maybe more will come out, and I'm not sure how much flexability that gives programmers, as I'm not one myself. But it looks promising.

No "Bulb" for the K3ii/K3 w/pkTriggerCord.....bummer...might still try it w/the K5ii though..

Yes, I may try my hand again at some software development given the SDK may give some insights. I would hope that Ricoh kept the API similar from the K3 to the K1 and and KP. K3 may actually be supported to a lesser extent although unofficially.
