Is shake reduction always active?

Hi, is it true that shake reduction (or equivalent fuction) is only activated during focus operation and shortly after that. I read that with some cameras it is only activated when the shutter button is half pressed for focus but I use back-button focus instead.

It's active, I believe, whenever the meter is. So this would mean it's enabled following a half-press, and then for the configured number of seconds thereafter. If you let the SR system arm before your take the shot, the effectiveness of the stabilization should be better.

Look for the hand icon in the viewfinder to verify that SR is on.

Shake reduction is on unless you turn it off. You can activate it by touching the shutter button gently or if using the back button it is activated when you push the back button. As Adam said the SR on time is meter dependent. Default meter time is 10 sec and can be changed to either 3 sec or 30 sec.
