Someone knows when the company will make the next K-3 camera line update?

Hi Tony
Welcome to the forum. No-one knows. Rumour is it's being worked on.

Kind regards,
Mark

It probably won't happen until 1/4 of the forum has given up and moved on to something else. Also based on past experience, when they are getting close, little hints will be dropped. None have been dtropped yet. We are at least 6 months off, probably more.

But a K-P looks like a heck of a camera.

Did anything ever come of that image that was leaked just before the K-1ii was announced?

As the saying goes: those who know, don't tell, and those who tell, don't know!

Anybody with advance information is almost certainly under a NDA (non-disclosure agreement). If they spill any beans, Pentax will never speak to them again.

As far as we know it's "in the works", and will hinted at when it's ~90% done, then be released shortly afterward.

So true. In the mean time the KP is one heck of a great camera... I adore mine.

From what I've heard from a Pentax/Ricoh rep at a local camera shop.. Pentax usually doesn't carry a line past 2 iterations. He believed that the Pentax K-3 replacement will have a different name. That's part of what caused the ambiguity of if the K-P was a flagship APSC model or not (it's not from what I heard). So, I guess, there's a good chance that the K-3 III won't ever happen but some other APSC flagship will take it's place.

There has been so much hardware development since the K-3, that would be totally logical.

Seems to me that our way of thinking about these things has changed some time recently. When cameras had names like "Spotmatic" or "ME" or "Super Program" they were almost one-up .... the company would make one camera until they didn't, and the next camera would be an entirely new venture conceived after a period of time. Now, each camera is part of a series almost from conception .... having a K-70 was almost inevitable once they had a K-30 and a K-50 {although K-S2 did interrupt things}; K-3 was inevitable after K-7 and K-5 .... but Pentax hasn't left themselves anyplace to go next, so it will be interesting to see what they do, and when.

I had a nice chat with my local rep a couple of weeks ago. He hinted at later this year, but he was, admittedly, very, very vague.
